In December 2018, we announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers' expectations. We want to thank you for being part of Google+ and provide next steps, including how to download your photos and other content.

Google has very usable search, browser and email.
Unfortunately google photos and drive aren't. If you made mistake and using it, make sure you have a backup. Nobody knows what they are going to delete in April.
I opened extra choice for what to archive before they delete google+ ...my email, photos and drives were listed.

They did it before, wiping out a nice easy photoshop that was fun..
Also some of my images went away. away..
Store your own images, i keep my SD cards, download on 2 laptops and outside drives.
Best simple storage is make prints!
Easy to see and show..
What is point of 50 MP and no prints?

I'm still bitter about them canceling Google Reader several years ago. I guess we get what we pay for, not that I used Google+ anyway.

I was initially disappointed that they discontinued Google Reader, but I transitioned to another program and didn't skip a beat, so it turned out not to be a big deal. I don't use Google+ so nothing to miss there.

I don't use Google+, but I have Gmail, Hangouts and Google Photos. Are they in danger of deletion?

Edited to add: this article from The Verge says that Google Photos is safe, but not photos and files uploaded to Google+. Since I have never used Google+ I think I'm safe.

Edit 2: looks like Gmail etc are okay.

"Any Google+ pages you created, as well as photos and videos stored in your Google+ album archive. The deletion does not affect other Google services. Photos and videos stored in Google Photos, for instance, will not be affected. Your Google account, which is linked to services such as Gmail, YouTube and Maps, will continue to work, but your Google+ account, which was only used for the social network, will be deleted."
