:( hello again all,

I recently got a R-d1, and found out it had a lot of hot pixel appearing even when i was shooting at 1/15s. I finally decided to take that back to the shop for an exchange. However, the shop only had 2 of them left, including a demo. I tested the one they had in their inventry and there are also some hot pixels but it seemed to be better than the one I am returning. The demo was broken and not working at all. As a result, I had to get the one with a few hot pixels/ stuck pixels since I dont want to take the one I was returning.

I updated mine to version 2.0 and try to map the pixel a few times. It helps but there are a few spots that couldnt be corrected no matter how many times i try to map them.

1) They appears at ISO1600 with shutter speed about 1/2s. It is visible in the picture. Is it quite bad? or it is acceptable for the r-d1? (since it was designed a few years ago?)

2) If i bring it back to the CS, is it possible for them to take care of the stuck pixels? Will they use a different method to map the pixel or it is just the same as I pressing the pixel mapping function on the setup manual? Which doesnt help much anyway?

3) It seems to have focusing alignment problem also. No matter how careful I tried to focus, I always seem to get some slightly out focus pictures. I was told that I can take it to CS and they will CAL it for me. But it will take about 2-3 weeks. I will have to use the camera for a short trip in about 2 weeks. If I take it to a local shop for repair, will it void the warranty? or it doesnt matter?

4) I found that it is very difficult for me to get an "acceptable" leveled picture. I tried to aim carefully and and try to align carefully with the frame lines but I almost always could not get a picture that is levelled horizontally. Is there any special technique to get a leveled picture when shooting rangefinders? And was I doing wrong to align it with the frame lines?

I am new to rangefinders switching from DSLR. Thank you very much in advance for all the advice!

I think I would return it and get a new one from that guy in Japan (name escapes). Or get one off the classifieds here.
