Here is a little update on my slow speeds problem with M2. the first curtain was not closing all the way which was resulting in a dark stripe on my photos made with 1/15th and slower. I brought it to the place I bought it from, the salesman said that its probably no big deal to fix, and sent it off to their repair shop. Now its back and now I finally understand what you guys mean when you write that your Leica is "buttery smooth". It was pretty smooth before (i thought), but now... it advances with such ease! I am amazed.

It also seems that the repairshop, although I haven't asked them to do so, has cleaned the viewfinder a little bit (unfortunately, for some reason not completely - there are still a few spots left). Now the VF is a lot brighter in a dim room. I was comparing the Bessa R and M2 viewfinder 2 months ago and realized to my surprise that the bessa was brighter and therefore easier to focus in low light. Well, not anymore. 😀 now its ready to shoot in the new year, which will be its 50th by the way. 🙂

So happy new year to you and your cameras!

I'm glad to hear your M2 is in the peak of health too and with no further expense. They are nice when they're working properly, aren't they?

they sure are, I now understand your M2 excitement, mark. 😉

I mean, I was really excited when I first got it, but this excitement has blinded me and I havent noticed the problems that it had for 2 months . lol.
