I've been waiting quite some time for the Leica 1.25 magnifier, and it finally arrived. Of course, it does what it's supposed to do (surprise coming.) On my 0.85 M7, it blows up the 75mm lines very nicely, with the 50mm being just visible at full frame. (The 35mm lines disappear.) And focusing with the 90mm cron should be more accurate, for me. Also, it has a rubber ring that will prevent marring eyeglasses; I appreciate that.

With the total mag at 1.06, shooting with both eyes open seems quite comfortable.

Here's the surprise, especially interesting for a HRF owner. If the magnifier is placed over the eyepiece of the Hexar, you now have a 0.75 VF. It fits nicely into the recess on the HRF VF and is in focus there. All that's needed is a means to hold it in place. I'll bet Tim Isaacs could easily design an inexpensive adapter.

I think this is the end of GAS for me. 😀

P.S. I'll copy and paste this message to the HRF forum.

Harry, I picked up a Leica 1.25x a couple months ago for my M6 TTL. I wear eyeglasses and usually shoot a Summicron 35mm. But I wanted the magnifier to help in focussing when I'm shooting with my Summicron 50mm. It really helps a lot. I also wanted to get an idea what a .72x viewfinder would be like. If I ever get myself another Leica M, I've thought about getting one with a .72x and keep the 50mm on it.

I'm very impressed with the quality of this little eyepiece.

I've got one too, and when I remember to use it, I never want to take the thing off. I use mine exclusively on my M7 .72, but I like the tip about using it with my HRF.
