Yeah, I still use film...
Today the postman blessed me with 2 neatly wrapped packages from the Glorious Motherland! Got my first Zorki 4 and my first Zorki 2C (S)!
The 2C is in beautiful shape, but the 4 was a little ratty, as I expected from the picture. I wound and fired it three times and it worked fine. I turned the sprocket release to check that out, and when I turned it back it would not reengage to cock the shutter. Hmmmm... Didn't turn the shutter speeds at the wrong time... Turned the knob back and forth numerous times, but no dice. Time to tear into it.
To make a long story short, using data from various sites around the web, I was able to easily tear the camera down and find a sticky shaft which wasn't allowing the inner sprocket shaft to snap back properly. A little light lube and everything is fine!
Have some cleaning and further lubing to do, but should be able to take it out for a test drive in a few days.
I have to say that, in disassembling this camera I don't really see what some people are talking about when they say that these are crudely made cameras. I was very impressed with what I saw. I have some experience with early Pentaxes and Yashica Electro 35's and TLR's, and IMHO I think the Zorki stands up quite well beside them. It sure didn't look like a piece of junk like some folks seem to think they are. Just my 2 cents worth, of course.
Russ 😀
