GR Digital V to have APS-C sensor

That would be GREAT! And even better would be if they could use a sensor that required little or no anti-aliasing filtration. And even better than that would be if they could also produce a 40mm version. :p

finally, what can I say.

Interesting, if Ricoh will keep two models - APS-C and small sensor 28mm, or move on to APS-C and keep only 28mm or add 40mm against Sigma, or just just have zoom GX instead of dedicated 40mm model (not sure if larger sensor don't mean also larger zoom).

It all hinges on how slim it'll be though, if it's thicker than the film GR cameras then I might as well take my X-Pro 1 + 18mm instead. If it's the same size then that'll be way more than I ever expected, perfect even - I always thought that the GRDV would have the RX100's sensor.

Interesting, although I must say, I don't own a GR, the wide angle lens, plus small sensor means lots of depth of field. I'm not a shallow DOF guy, and I was taking photos at a wedding at the weekend with my 6x6 folder, and would have loved a smaller "sensor" so I did not have to be so precise with the focus.

I am afraid that if Ricoh really switches to APS-C the GRD5 will be very expensive...
DOF will still be enough.

if they can keep it the same price range or cheaper than the X100s coming out then that would be something worth buying imo. the lack of OVF bothers me still but considering its supposed to be compact and has a hotshoe its fine.

Very, very excited about this. Having been waiting for years. If it comes in under $1000, then I will buy.

Very interesting news. Hope it comes to fruition.

Only thing that would hold me back is form factor. For me there are two form factors: pocketable and not pocketable. Once it's not pocketable and needs some sort of bag, the size is more cosmetic than anything.

If it's much bigger might as well get a used 5D (only slightly exaggerating) .

"Our source tells us that prototypes of the Ricoh GRD V already exist, and that the body is thicker than its predecessors. "

Hope they get the form factor close.

Otherwise RX100 = GRD V for me but I'm happy with my GRD III.

A good indication may be the Sigma DP series... once Sigma added a APS-C size (approx) sensor, it got thicker.

Sounds like a fixed lens version of the GXR A12/28 perhaps shrunk a little by removing the module rails and using a more compact lens that is more relient on software distortion correction.

DP-series have got APS-C sized chip from the beginning. Is it so thick? I don't think so. Do I need it more thin? Not really.
How about others?

Well, it went from 20.7mm x 13.8mm to 23.5mm x 15.7mm in this last update. Nikon's APS-C is 23.6 x 15.8 mm. I get your point though.

If you are used to the GR as it is now... making it as think as the DP2m is going to put off some.

If you are putting in a pocket, thickness is definitely important. The regular GR1 film camera is a bit slimmer than the digital version and you can tell. But it all seems pretty speculative at this point.

The dp series is easily pocketable, even my Pentax espio mini is and it is way thicker. So i think, that this camera can be in a pocketable size.
I'm excited, but the 28mm are a bit too wide for me, at least this brings even more competition in the sector of big sensor compacts.

DP2 Merrill is 4.8 x 2.64 x 2.32" in inches

Espio Mini is 4.14 x 2.16 x 1.46"

The Merrill is thicker because the lens no longer retracts... and isn't that pocketable because of it. The GRD IV is 1.30" thick.

Of course there is the RFF contingent that won't buy anything without a viewfinder and is very vocal about this whenever any new camera is announced (or in this case rumored) which is fine but since the GRD has never had one built in I'm not sure why they care about this thread.

Is the dp2m thicker than the old dp2?
If not, it is still pocketable.
I will google that :)
