For those of you living in or visiting the San Francisco Bay Area, I've two wonderful photo exhibits to recommend.

First, if you are at all interested in seeing what a master printer/photographer can do with silver or palladium, stop in at Scott Nichols' gallery at 49 Geary St., San Francisco. He has a retrospective show of George Tice photographs. I saw them today and they blew me away. The loveliest prints I've seen in a long, long time. And, it turns out, Tice (who's in his mid-seventies now and still producing great photography) is going to be giving the 1st Annual Fotovision Lecture at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism on Friday, Sept. 27 (details on the Nichols Gallery site: scottnicholsgallery.com). The Nichols Gallery show will be up through mid-November.

Next, check out the wonderful exhibit of Peter Stackpole's photographs documenting the construction of both the Golden Gate and Oakland Bay Bridges in the 1930's. The show is at the Oakland Museum of Art and the exhibit will be up through late January. http://museumca.org/exhibit/peter-stackpole-bridging-bay

heading up from orange county to move back to school in santa cruz next weekend, these look like they're worth driving a little further up for!

Have fun everyone. By the way, the Fraenkel Gallery (same building, 49 Geary) is mounting a show of HUGE contact prints by Richard Learoyd. The show doesn't open until September 12, so you might want to include that in your scheduling plans. I peeked in the door today as they were mounting the exhibit. The prints look to be about 4ft. wide... amazing landscapes.
