The 2015 revised edition of the classic 1993 original edition is being reprinted and re-released in June 2021.

From the website:

A revised, expanded and updated version of the influential original City of Darkness, first published in 1993. City of Darkness Revisited is the most thorough record of the Kowloon Walled City, one of Hong Kong's most notorious, and most misunderstood, neighborhoods. This updated new volume adds significant new essays, maps, drawings, photographs and interviews to the story of the Kowloon Walled City, at the time the most densely populated place on the planet: Nearly 40,000 people squeezed into 350 buildings, 12-14 floors high, packed into a single Hong Kong city block.

356 pages. $85USD plus shipping.

I own a copy of this book and it is striking and fantastic, both as a work of history and as a volume of majestic photography. I recommend it highly.

If it was destroyed where did 40,000 people go? That was tight living.

Throughout the rest of the Kowloon part of Hong Kong, mostly. It is hard to describe how densely populated that part of HK is. The first time I went overseas I stayed here, on that block. Really a massive jolt to a kid coming from 40km2 with one family living on it.

This is what is on the site now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kowloon_Walled_City_Park

I've had the original book for many years. It has always been one of my favorite books. It is a great documentation of Kowloon.
