Grip for M6

if it covered the whole camera you would have to remove it to take off the bottom to change films. I have a chrome version of that grip on my black m6 looks a bit different but handles like a charm...

Personally, I use Luigi's half case with the built in grip. Since it is leather, it does not slip and it gives an excellent hold on the camera. Beyond that, it protects the whole camera from damage and shock. It also looks very good. When you set it down, the whole camera is flat. They also come with a great strap. Anyway, they are great and I have one for each Leica I own...they really make a difference, particularly for heavier lenses like the 75 lux.

Why don't they sell a grip that covers the entire lengtht of the camera body!? Not only does it look more even, I also don't get a lobsided camera when I set it down on the table.
It's not lopsided when you set it down. It's perfectly level.

Have a GMP M-Grip lying around somewhere. Used it but I prefer the M without additional grip. The GMP M-Grip allows for resetting the frame couter in the middle of the roll. Push the vertical part of the grip (gently) towards the lens...

If I had thought of looking for it yesterday morning I would have bought it with the order I placed from B&H. I have the Abrahammson grip which is also nice, very solid build, and it does lopside the camera when set down.

I too have a couple of the GMT grips lying around in a drawer somewhere. I figure if one day the mild arthritis in my hands gets bad enough, I'll have the grips to fall back on. Until then, I find holding the bare nekkid Leicas just fine. No grips, no soft releases, no stick-on add-on bolt-on tape-on or anything-on doodaddys for me.

Oh so the Luigi case has built in grip? I thought the design was to allow an M + grip to fit into a case.. hmm. That high price tag might be worth it then...

He will make them however you want...one case has a little bump (the standard case), another is made to fit the M grip, and another has a chunk of leather in the form of a grip...that is the one that I get. They look like this:

This grip works wonders when you have a big lens mounted on the camera... like the Summicron 90 (first & second versions). Even though you can also rest the lens on your hand when you use it, the grip makes life easier.

Not to mention that a Leica M body with the grip and an Elmarit 28 looks simply gorgeous! :)

Oh crap! I didn't realize the luigi case + grip is $199 !!

Wow, this guy's gotta be bankin' on that little piece of leather.. I'll take my money else where...

I agree that Luigi cases are dear, but they are hand-made and you simply can't find anything like them anywhere. There's one in my future.

well, think of it as 100 for the grip (the leica grip is more than that) and 100 for the case...as frank says, these are handmade and the leather quality is superb. A Bottega Veneta or similar wallet from the same quality leather would cost much more than that, and be much easier to make. I am sure Luigi is making a profit, but I doubt it is huge. Certainly not highway robbery.

The materials may not have a huge dollar value on there own, but the time and effort to design and construct the case the cost is in my view a bargain. I'll be looking for one in the future, sooner if I talk myself out of getting another motorcycle.

That's my assessment as well. Then again, if I owned a $3500 new Leica instead of <$1000 users, my sense of economy of scale might be different (or not, a new Leica is a far cry from a few pieces of leather sewn together in someone's basement). I picked up a genuine Leica ERC (the late-model type that snaps over the strap lugs so it can be removed quick) for each of my bodies for about $50 each in great condition. And they're full cases too, so they offer protection in-transit. The one for my M4 even has room in the roof to clear the Leicameter.

"a far cry from a few pieces of leather sewn together in someone's basement"

This is in no way a description of the cases the Luigi makes.

Do any of the grips have a pair of Arca-swiss style quick release groves machined into them? If someone did this, along with a screw mount in the middle, they would have a real winner. Until then, I prefer the the ubiquitous bottom half of a Leica never-ready case, a Domke gripper strap, and when using a tripod an RRS quick release plate.

There are several things I like about the never-ready case. It is very high quality, it is much less expensive than a Luigi, and I have the opition of snapping on the top half if I want to (which isn't very often). Also, it doesn't attract attention, but that can also be said of the Luigi case in black. I do not want to advertise the fact that I am carrying around an expensive piece of equipment.

Someone mentioned the Softouch. IMO it gives me at least one extra stop when hand holding, maybe more. The camera doesn't feel complete without it. The only time it comes off is when I am in tripod/cable release mode.

Cheers.

I have the original GMP black metal grip and never use it as I find it adds too much weight.

mtnmasher's idea of machining in the Arca swiss grooves is a great idea though. Wouldn't that be nice?
