WTF?
http://www.bluecheddar.net/2011/10/27/guns-to-be-allowed-in-most-of-wisconsins-capitol-what-could-possibly-go-wrong/
“guns would be allowed on the Assembly floor and in the Assembly viewing galleries, said sources who have been briefed on the plans. That would mean the public could bring guns into the viewing galleries but would still have to adhere to other existing rules including one that bars the use of still cameras and video cameras.”

Not just Wisconsin:

Welcome to my adopted country.
Kentucky, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Utah, Minnesota, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Texas and Virginia all allow guns in state Capitols with varying restrictions ranging from nothing to only allowing guns with permission from state police.

The best camera is one that still works!
I can see the logic here:
When terrorists storm the Capitol building cameras will be of little use ... armed citizens much more so!

I used to work for an American company, and made regular visits there. There's so much about the people and the places that is great - but this sort of thing really puts me off any thoughts of making another visit. The South of France looks much more attractive.

That's just in the legislative chamber and only during session, I believe (I've never had a problem bringing cameras in there when it's empty). That's always been the case. You can bring cameras in the Capitol building.

Don't make the assumption that everyone shares your outrage. One of the things that has made RFF great is tolerance for other viewpoints...

Thank you shadowfox.
I have advice for anybody that is jealous of the USA.
Sell your euros or any other currency and buy dollars as soon as you can.

I have better advice: you don't like USA? get the F out and take your ****e with you
Oh, and don't let the door slam your ass on the way
Oh, and let me add: I've been to Paris two years in a row. I'll go back again, and again. There's a whole bunch of what goes on in that country I don't agree with. But, ya know what? I don't disrespect the country. So, my job when I visit, or when I find there's some law or another I think is stupid, is to keep my mouth f'g shut.

don't worry, if you go to a top university you'll see that that is already the case.
I'm going to work for two years or so since I just got out of school and don't have the money nor a sponsorship for a visa and then start applying like crazy to jobs in Canada, Sweden, Norway, South Korea, Japan and even Hong Kong.
I used to think, "hey this is my country too" but I'll go live with the horses before I stay here long term.
Wisconson is a perfect example of why I'm leaving. Everyone goes and protests some obviously heinous law and then when it comes time to vote no one even shows up. What a joke. If you want to know why I have zero faith in the Occupy Wall Street crowd there is your answer.
America is very quickly advancing itself backwards into the 1890s and it's this mentality that is causing it.
It's the idea that we, as Americans, are never wrong. To question our superiority is to question God Himself. To suggest that self-betterment and science are answers is sacrilege.
So yes, I will take my **** and leave. And not a second too soon. I'll even take a pay cut as long as it's enough to live and buy some film and chemicals.
Go ahead and think America is great. It's already second-world for about 90% of the population when it comes to things like health care, internet access, nutrition, education and general welfare. And yet, America is number 1. Not sure what we're number 1 at though, maybe sending people to heaven in ole' sparky.

Then move to another country? And then you'll hear people badmouthing thát country too. People will badmouthing countries everywhere...
In my country people are badmouthing my own country too, as well as other countries. We do not bother and we ain't judges neither.
What's wrong with a good laugh about law or politics, in your own country or another?
I can't take my own country (Belgium) serious anymore for a long time.
For example: in Belgium, you can drink beer from your 16th and can drive a car from your 18th and you cannot carry guns.
In USA (depending from state to state), you can drink beer from 21, you can drive from your 16, carry guns (from 18?).
Well, Belgian people think it's funny, while USA people can think Belgians are funny too, from their point of view.
Why make a problem of all those things? These are just the funny differences in culture, no?
Anyway, to be on topic, I think it's funny you can carry guns, but can't carry cameras. It's like saying this about two different things: "getting a tattoo is forbidden, going to whores is allowed".

No country is perfect. All have good and bad points. Some people, for reasons I have never understood, refuse to believe this, and react very badly to the slightest criticism of their own country. It's funny how seldom they react to criticism of others' countries.
Now consider a simple phrase: "in the wrong hands."
Which will do more harm in the wrong hands: guns or cameras? Indeed, what might one mean by cameras "in the wrong hands"? The only examples that spring to mind are (which most people find less offensive than killing people) and the fear that people may actually find out what's really going on in a given country or place. Quite a lot of people have things to hide, or have a very exaggerated idea of their own importance and dignity, and therefore HATE cameras.
Cheers,
R.
