I have always liked a grip on a camera, loved the grip on my , now long gone Pentax Lx, I have noticed half cases with grips built in. I like grips but I am not sure if I like half cases. How do people feel regarding grips and half cases? What grip would people recommend for my M2. Any advice gratefully accepted

The covering of my M2 is falling off in stages so I use an old Leica case as a half case. good protection and slightly bigger so better for larger hands, but no built-in grip. I have one of the Zhou cases with grip for Bessa and they work well.

I had intended to add thanks for your service and congratulations on your retirement. I have worked many times in the UK and have occasionally had to use the the NHS, and I have a great respect for it. I retired last May, and had the great good luck to have been given an M2 in the year before that. It is my favorite camera, and I put a Metrocase grip on it, mostly to provide a more centered tripod mounting location. But it also works great in providing extra security in handling the camera.

Ditto on the Luigi. I have two with grips that are just little bumps, not very pronounced, and yet are very adequate. And I have an older Luigi with a barely noticeable bump, even smaller than the others. This is the one I keep on the M2. And this, too, is very adequate for all but a heavy lens. I don't think I'd like a case with the very pronounced ones I've seen pictures of. The Luigi case feels luxurious, and as Gerry M said, feels very good to hold.

I have the Leica M Grip, but after the novelty wore off, I rarely use them. If I get another 90 Summicron, then I'll use it. Maybe. The Luigi case is a nicer way to hold Leica.

The Tom Abrahamsson grip is very substantial and should be great for heavier lenses, but it might be overkill for a 50mm f/2. I haven't tried it.

thanks the Zhou cases look quite interesting

I have used a Zhou half case on my M2 for the last ten years. V nice, and the grip built into the case feels great in my hand. Highly recommend. If you really want to treat yourself, though, get a Luigi case and strap... 😎

I got a Luigi half case and strap for my Contax IIa... it's really nice...

A vote for Luigi (and strap).

The Zhou half-case is nice budgetary alternative on my 2nd IIIf and as mentioned above, the ergonomic grip bump is a nice feature. But, I have the Luigi's on my initial IIIf and M2 and the Luigi's are in a different class. The leather aroma itself is exquisite. 🙂

Thanks for the kind words, I have always been proud of the NHS, a lot of people seem to be using M2's in their retirement
