I just picked up my GF-1 and 20/1.7 lens. I am so far very pleased with the micro 4/3 format. I have used a Panasonic TZ-3 and am familiar with the "faults" of noise at high ISO settings. With the larger sensor this is greatly reduced. I now see why the EP-1/2 and the GF-1 have generated so much excitement! I also liked the G-1 very much, but preferred the more non SLR feel of the GF-1. The new kit won't cause me to retire my film cameras, but I suspect I will be shooting more digital images than I have in the past.

I have a still-active darkroom, in the corner of my garage, that's been sitting idle now for about 9 months because of the G1. I hope to do some of my old paper negative/large format work again soon, but the G1 keeps calling its siren song every time I head out the door. Damn. But a good problem to have.

I played around a little this weekend with the camera. The film modes are interesting. I also had some good results with raw files. I am really going to enjoy this camera.
Has anyone used the CV 50/1.5 Nokton on a Micro 4/3 body? I think it should be a good portrait lens.

It was the opposite effect for me. Hadn't touched my film cameras for a long time. GF1 capability to handle so many legacy lenses made me dig them out to figure out what might work well on it.... got me thinking about shooting BW again
The 20f1.7 Pany is a great lens. Love it...

I find my interest in this camera is lukewarm at best however I do see a benefit in its usage - I think I would miss my OOF areas and bokeh though with such a small sensor.... or would I?

I find that the CV 40mm viewfinder works really well with the 20mm f/1.7 on the GF1. I now use it strictly with the LCD off which I feel helps me to be more productive.
Interesting idea

I recently got an ep1 and have to say that m4/3 is a ton of fun. I am also a film fanatic but had been waiting for a digital that I "clicked with", so to speak. Olympus and Panasonic answered most of what I was looking for in m4/3 and the ability to use my old lenses is a fun option to have.
I'm just waiting for the 20mm to be in stock at b&h or adorama and I'm getting it. So psyched!

Just started shooting my new GF1 today. With the 20/1.7 you certainly can get oof areas (depending on the usual factors...). One example:
I will probably sell the G1 and wait to see what the G2 looks like. m4/3 is definitely fun!

There is a bit of a learning curve, but a great little camera.

Great to hear that you guys are enjoying these little guys so much. I have been tempted more than twice by the m4/3 cameras, but have yet to pull the trigger. Every time I get close, it just seems like there is something missing. However, now I continue to hear great things about that little panny lens. Maybe I should find a way to spend some time with one and see. Though it's probably safer that I don't!

Mike, interesting,
I get the Oly E-P2 *because* I want a digital compact enough to be used alongside my film cameras.
Being able to use old manual lenses via adapter makes it extra sweet.
As for being able to do shallow OOF, I never find *any* 4/3rd cameras lacking in that regard, don't know maybe just me.

Face detection is off. I use "AF Area" mode with the area box positioned dead center. I turned off the AF beep because I find the af speed to be fast enough that there is no lag to worry about. Of course, this probably wouldn't work as well at night but in even reasonable light (dawn) I find it pretty easy to hit my desired focus.
Thanks --> tried it today --> works very well --> if the ambient noise is low enough u can hear the autofocus motor stop....
