I wonder whether M9 reliability has improved now that they have been in production for ove two years. I remember reading so much about cracked sensors and various other flaws that caused a seemingly large number to be returned right out the box.
Is there evidence that the points of failure have been eradicated?
Have you bought a M9 recently and had problems straight away?
Did you buy a M9 within the last six months and have problems develop since then?

Bought within the last 6 months or so, my M9 developed the "low battery" display problem. Leica NJ fixed the camera in 3 weeks door-to-door, no charge, checking all functions and replacing the new gen vulcanite as well.
No other problems. If mine gave it up or was damaged or stolen, I'd buy another in a heartbeat, funds permitting. The 'net negativity didn't sway me when I bought mine and doesn't sway me now.

I have had mine for 11 months. It is at Leitz NJ now. My shutter hung up and there might be a sensor porblem as well. Should find out later this week. I love it though and miss using it even though I have my M8 for backup. I love the full frame sensor.

There weren't really any significant reliability issues. There were a minor number of cameras that suffered from a cracked cover glass; according to Leica this was an issue with a batch of sensors from Kodak, and they rapidly repaired them (I had one of the problem cameras). I believe there were no more than a few dozen with this problem.
Buy one if you can find one...

I have had the M9 since August last year and have used it extensively since then. It is my favorite camera on my extensive vacation trips. I have never had a problem. It is performing flawlessly. Get one if you enjoy RF nature photography.

I've had mine since Jan 2010 with no problems.
No issues with mine...about 4-5 months I've had it. If you look hard enough, you'll find issues with everything. It's not worth being scared. There's a warranty.

From what everyone is saying it sounds like problems were restricted to a few batches and aside from those, there are a few shutter faults etc but they are few and far between. I have needed a digital M for some time now and maybe I will jump. A M10 would seem likely to be at least 12 months away... maybe.

I've had mine for almost two years and to date, I've had no real problems with it (cross my fingers).
One episode where it indicated "shutter fault," but that was because I was pressing the shutter button too rapidly while on "single" advance and in "discreet and soft" mode (things were happening rather quickly in front of me and I wanted to get all of it). The problem cleared itself right up after turning the camera off, and nothing like that has happened since....
