that lens looks like something from a kid's toy box. actually, the entire setup looks like a toddler's play camera.

I dunno, I don't think the R8 looks that bad.

I'm betting on tequila, or maybe Southern Comfort. It’s been a long time since I was that drunk.
That 212k looked like a red dot , I guess.

So I'm the only one here that thinks that Zenit copied the R8's design. Kinda sorta..?

Weeell, I remember White Russians. Then skipped to Black Russians. Then someone may have cut to the chase and just dropped shots.
It all seemed so innocent.

Sure. Kinda sorta. Hoping you didn’t overpay. On the other hand, Ive never used one, so maybe it’s a sleeper.

Shipping costs more than these things.
On the upside, while it is built like a yogurt carton compared to my old Zenit 12SD, the viewfinder is very bright (for any camera let alone a Zenit), the shutter action is much smoother, shutter speed dial turns much easier as does the ISO dial. And the battery cover actually attaches securely instead of needing to be held on with tape!
The Zenitar lens is meant to be very good, and because it is K mount I can also use it on my Pentax MX.
It's worth it just for the lens (I think..)

I say load up some Russian Silberra film, and shoot away...
Or should I say, "In Soviet Russia, camera shoots you!"

I didn't know this Zenit was another Leica knock-off.

Hmmm, the first Zenit was based on the Zorki and that was based on the FED and that was based on the Leica II...
They all improved on what went before but it's fair to say that the Leitz FP shutter that Oskar Barnack created in 1912 or 13 was in all of them and the last Zenit was the DX* one in - perhaps - 2006.That's a long run for a good design...

You ever seen the cash register at a McDonalds? No letters or numbers, just pictures.

Weird. They both look like cameras to me.

I love the symmetry of time, from copies of the first Leicas to a copy of the last SLRs.
Sadly my boozing days are long behind me, but I am regularly able to order the wrong thing, generally for cars though.

The Leica R8 apparently had a ******* child while on vacation in Russia.
Is the 212 a m42 or F mount rig?
Always though those “new” Zenitars had a cool exterior. Very Minolta maxxum of them.
