Just noticed the rumor here.

I cannot even begin to imagine the cost of such a machine, but a Bessa III footprint with a digital back sounds pretty interesting. Still, it's so easy to get good scans from MF, that for hobbyist like me MF RF still make more sense.

Costs vary widely, with the new Pentax being a steal.... If you have near $10,000 to get the body and one lens. I'd be keen on a hybrid finder, folder or Mamiya 7 size camera!

I did see the rumor... and the rumor about Sony's medium format mirrorless as well. Fixed lens mirrorless instead of RF I would think. I think it'll happen eventually in some form. The A7r / D800e are seeemingly on the cusp of MF resolution already and sensors will just keep getting better / larger.

If either of them can do it under $5000, it'll be good to see. I wouldn't get your hopes up for exotic finders or mechanical RFs though... but hopefully I'm wrong.

well, not long ago people shelled out 10K for small sensor body only....

If they make a digital body where I can put the lenses of the G690BL on then I'll wait and start begging on a street corner.

Intriguing for sure. But I don't see a cost advantage for me since I have a lot of MF film cameras already.

For others, who knows?

I think the cool aspect of this rumor is that it mirrors the X series development. I think the X100 was an experimental proof of concept. The fixed focal length, OVF/EVF rangefinder esque camera. People loved it and it launched the X series.

Fuji has an awesome history of producing fixed focal length RF medium format camera. They have the know how to produce a OVF/EVF camera bar none, and they could test the medium format waters by producing a fixed focal length MF OVF/EVF camera.

If people bite, maybe you invest in developing an interchangeable lens system.

I think its an exciting rumor. They have the experience to pull this off, and a carry round MF camera with a leaf shutter would be beyond cool.

I'd be really into this camera... if true. I don't use that many focal lengths (28-55mm) anyway. The price is obviously a key element. However, conversely the Sony A7r that I'm currently using already offers ridiculous resolution and a great range of depth of field options for my style of photography... in a small package.

Skip ff and go direct to mf sensor would be awesome 🙂.. I hope this ends up reality. I have had my share of Fuji mf film cameras. The gf670 is one I still use today.

The first rumor to get me somewhat excited ... if that is anywhere near the concept of the GF670 with the usual Fuji sense for innovation and balance of functionalities, that would be something. And - also a potential classic, outside the ridiculous renewal cycles of the digital cameras.

Lets see if it is true. I am happy with the Bessa III/GF670. I appreciate the advantages that a larger film area/sensor brings.

Since they build the Hasselblad H cameras (but not the backs) one could say they already have done it. If Hasselblad throws in the towel maybe Fuji picks up from there.
