Those high flying Canadian Dollars are doing wonders.
Enjoy the trip to the fullest, Frank.
I am poor as my US Dollars have crashed.

Southern France... I remember Nice...

Frank, you're in a beautiful region of France. Years ago, I was in Carcassonne, which is relatively close to where you are. While some parts of it are a typical tourist trap, the city is worth a look, just on account of the rampart.

Of course, you're in duck cassoulet territory. It's some treat, I tell you. Try it before leaving! :)

Dear Frank,

Hoping to see you on Tuesday -- see PM.

Reply ASAP -- we're leaving Monday AM. Right now it's sunny, 24 degrees in the courtyard (28 earlier).

EDIT -- Any chance of a 'phone number? Or call me and I'll call you back -- you have my number.

SECOND EDIT -- The earlier you can get to that market, the better. They typically start very early -- anything from 0700 on -- and by 1400 they tend to be winding down or indeed gone.

Cheers,

R.

Hah, I was there probably about four weeks ago.

I studied abroad in France (mostly in the Provence region) for about eight weeks. It was the best experience of my life.

Frank,

I have been in Pouzols-Minervois 3 years ago. I loved it! Fantastic cuisine and driving through the wineyards at sunset is spectacular!

Best, horea

Enjoy France. And according to Barak Obama, since the only French that Americans know is "Merci bocou" A hardy Merci bocou to you.:) I probably didn't spell it right either.;)

Hello again,

The medieval streets are amazing, the history is mind boggling,
Travelling with teenagers is a challenge, everything is boring dont you know,
The lifestyle iis totally different here, afternoon naps, forget commerce, very civilized!
A few more days here, then 3 days in Paris, during the end of the Tour de France,

Enjoy this type of life, Frank. I have toyed many times with leaving things behind me and to take my family to Europe to live there.

Dear Raid,

There are worse ways to live.

I've been in la France profonde for 6 years this August...

Cheers,

R.

Hello Roger,
One day we shall meet somewhere and somehow.
I have lived in Iraq, Germany and in the USA. That's how I learned three languages well and that's how I think in three ways.

France is not on top of my "I wish I lived in that country" list, but I have never lived there to be able to assess [make sure there are two S's at the end] the quality of life there.

Cheers,

Is it possible to have too much fun? Hopefully Frank will be able to give us the answer to that question when he gets home.

If you intend watching 'le tour' in Paris I'd suggest not going to the Champs Elysee. The crowds are so deep all the way up that unless you arrive _very_ early you won't see a thing. The best places in my experience are either on rue de Rivoli at the Louvre end, or better still by the Seine as they head east towards the Louvre. Last time I was there in 2002 the crowds were only 2 or three deep at the most.

Also if it's a sunny day the sun is behind you, and the trees also offer some shade.

I lived in Paris from 2001-2003 and went for the final day a couple of times.

I'm over in France for a couple of weeks next month. Off to Perpignan for the photojournalism exhibition once again. Can't wait.

Great thread, Frank. I'll be right there on the 17 September! SFO to CDG, then TGV to Marseille and on to meet our Brit friends on their boat in Carcassone for a slow trip to Beziers. Agonizing over which lens to take. You know the drill!
Enjoy, Vic

Frank: Man, did you mess up. You missed us ...

..at the Pickle Barrel this morning, Sherway Gardens. [Note: we were nearly ready for lunch by the time Jan got his ass out of bed and joined us.]

How could you possibly forgo a GTA RFF-mini-meet-up at a fine restaurant with haute-oeufs and oooh-la-la cafe for some dusty, old, twisty, narrow streets where they don't even speak proper Quebecois?

Yours sincerely,

Trius

Im sitting at the cafe now waiting to meet up with Roger and Francis,

Sorry to miss you guys at thhe gta mini meet, looking forward to the summer meet in Aug,

Too much fun, Ralph? No, realities of life always reduce the imagined potential fun,

So much photo potential here its not funny! I can understand why Jon Claremont and Richard Jenkins and Roger Hicks have decided to move here )or hereabouts)

Bye for now,

Earl, Jan, Gene, and Peter...

I despise the fact that you guys can do this - on a weekday... in the middle of summer.... when I'm in an office !!!

Wahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Earl, please, next time you guys get together, can you include moi? :D

Oh.. and Frank.. I'm glad you're enjoying your time on The Continent. Can you please give Roger and Francis all my best from here in the T-Dot?:)

Cheers,
Dave
