Hi,
Does anyone of you knows where to find a 55mm thread vented hood for my Canon 50/1.2. I am not looking for the original Canon hood, it is way too expensive for what it is, I am looking for a generic hood, any idea?
I already have a 55mm hood (not vented) but it doesn't look good on the lens.
Thanks for your help.

Thats a screw-on hood for a 55mm/1.2 Olympus lens, not a screw-in hood for 55mm filter thread. I doubt it fits the Canon 50/1.2. Heavystar as well as the other sellers of chinese vented hoods have them usually only in the classical rangefinder filter sizes like 39mm, 40.5mm, 43mm. The are vintage Kenko and Walz screw in vented hoods with 46mm thread. I have never seen a 55mm screw-in vented hood.
I just tried out a 55mm screw-in collapsible rubber hood (from a evil SLR) on the Canon 50/1.2. It works with the R-D1, which has a higher viewfinder position, but on the M6 it intrudes quite much. OTOH, the original vented hood of Canon has a silky black color, making reflections into the R-D1 viewfinder (finder flare) in counterlight situations.

You could try the vented hood that CQ sells for the 35mm f1.2, I think it clamps on like the original Canon, but I'm not sure on the size, maybe 52mm? The CQ web site has plenty of pics of it, Andrew.

I use this one from Heavystar (ebay item 140162518759) on my 50/1.2. It is only short and about the same diameter as the lens itself, so it does not obstruct the viewfinder. Being short, it does not vignette - perhaps just a little at wide apertures, but then I won't be using it wide open in areas where I need a hood. Not perfect, but it helps.

Didier I used this screw-on Oly hood on my Canon 50/1.2 - it works
very well and does not obstruct the VF. Looks good, too.
Problem with any screw-in hood is that it will vignette - and not
wide open but at f5.6 and up.
Of course, on an RD1 this doesn't matter

back to basics
I had a straight screw-in hood on mine when I sold it. About 20mm deep which curiously does not vignette, not even upclose and wide open. Never tried it stopped down since I hardly used the lens for that.
It is sold by Heavystar but not the wide-angle one.
I have a deeper 49mm screw one on my J9 which operates fine too.

The vented Nokton 35/1.2 hood does not fit the Canon. I don't have the vented one but the standard, which has the same mount, and it's too small for the Canon. It's 52mm, the canon 55mm.Never Satisfied said:You could try the vented hood that CQ sells for the 35mm f1.2, I think it clamps on like the original Canon, but I'm not sure on the size, maybe 52mm? The R-D1 does not need hoods to vignet. The sensor can do that himself!ferider said:Of course, on an RD1 this doesn't matterRoland.

Hi Didier,
You seem to be well aware of what should/could fit as a hood for a Canon rf 50mm 1.2 when used with an Epson r-d1.
I have to admit my lack of knowledge on that matter, and was wondering if you could tell me what is a "55mm screw-in collapsible rubber hood", what is the difference between screw-in and screw-on, and where these can be found on the Net (or elsewhere) to purchase?
Thanks in advance!!
Stephane
