I know, I took the SWMBO administered cure for GAS. However, I'm beginning to like the look of 35mm lenses thanks to joe's latest project. Unfortunately, of the two 35mm lenses I own, I much prefer the one for those other kinds of 35mm cameras.

Please take a look at the attached photos and suggest a 35mm lens for my M5. I'll post some pictures from the other 35mm lens soon. Then y'all can tell me if I'm crazy to be disappointed with it.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

your shots seem sharp and contrasty now.
getting another 35, if for shooting and not collecting purposes, would/should then be for a specific purpose. i.e. you want something even sharper, less contrasty or more etc.
what are you hoping to achieve?

Same but different

WELL DUH! Attach the photos, Wayne!

do you want something to use for available light, do you want something sharper???

you pics look pretty sharp with good contrast, so help us narrow down the choices 🙂

Wayne, these photos look fine to me--good contrast, detail, and color--but I would say that you need further testing. Is this the famous $35-lens?

If this is a Leica lens, I say test it in low light, in b&w, and with people, then see what it does.

Am I missing something? I didn't read that you identified the lens.

I edited to unidentify the lenses.

OK, for the sake of clarity let me begin again.

I like the B&W and color photos I posted. They were made with two different lenses on two different platforms. Suffice to say that the lens used for the B&W images won't work on my rangefinder bodies.

My question is this: If I want the visual character of the B&W photos posted above from my M5, what lens would you all suggest?

Thanks for the kind words. $35 lens? OH, right, the $35 Summa-Elma-something purchased at the estate sale recently. Nope, but close. One cost $60-$80 when I bought it new in 1975. The other was part of a body and two lens package I purchased in the late 70s for $125. The closest I've come to a $35 find is the Canon FD 50/1.4 S.S.C. I bought last month for $50. That lens will be the subject of another thread soon. The best $50 I've ever spent!

Neither lens was made by Leica.

Venchka,

IMHO, with color, I don't think you'll get anything close with RF glass. Maybe M Hexanon, but not with leitz or VC, again IMHO. If you did find something equal to the other 35mm type, it would be 100x the price as well.

It's hard to tell from web posted images what you are calling "visual character" but here goes... buy a Summicron and be happy 🙂, or maybe a VC 35mm pancake II will be close enough for you. If your looking for the ultimate in sharpness it'll be hard to beat the latest 35/2 asph. summicron.

good luck,
Todd

lighten up Magus, were all good here 🙂, I'd be interested in what about these images says "Japanese character" to you, if anything they almost look digital to me (maybe scanned chromogenic, XP-2?).

Todd

Todd, I respectfully disagree with you here. The character of the B&W shots is very Japanese. No Leitz/Leica lens will render that look.

LOL and you can tell all that from small web posted images without even knowing or considering how and wth what they are scanned with? Its no wonder you cop so much flack at times Magnus! But to your credit, Leica really needs more customers just like you!

Joel, the two of us had better times. Perhaps you, too, suffer from a short memory.

I must suffer from a short memory as you say because I cant remember ever remember getting reactions like you do. Some people disagree with what I may say but thats perfectly acceptable as its always been polite and in good spirits. I certainly hope the people I disagree with at times feel the same way.
