So just today I received a used R2A. It graciously came with a ltm to m adapter (the 35mm version). I mounted my cv 35 2.5 cs onto it and onto the camera. The problem is this - I can't focus at longer distances. I run out of room, if that makes sense. The further away, the more it's out of focus, and there's no more throw on the lens to bring it into focus. Is this a mount issue? Or does the rangefinder need alignment? I'm excited to get this camera (i've got a bessa-r right now), but a little depressed that there's something up with it. Any ideas?

It sounds like an adapter issue - that's typically what happens with an adapter that is too thick - you cannot focus to infinity anymore. Order a new adapter from Stephen and see what happens - I am pretty sure your problem will go away. The other option is to borrow an M-lens from someone and test the R2a.

Thanks for the info. I do have a new adapter on the way from Stephen, so I'll know more next week. I'm just desperate to get out with it.

It could be the camera, the adapter or the lens.
Try the lens on the R and see if you can focus to infinity. If yes, the lens
is OK.
Next, how far is it off at infinity ? If just a little bit, it might be the adapter.
Otherwise it is likely the camera. To verify you need another M mount lens
(or adapter), unfortunately.
Roland.

The 35 is fine on the R. I tried a few 50mm that I have and they were worse on the R2A. It's a fair amount off at infinity. I wouldn't click the shutter ordinarily, but it's pretty clearly out.
I hope it's not the camera.

Put a roll in it and make/develope 6 pics. See what happens.
I have measured CV and Leitz adapters and they are the same with my micrometer.
RF on CV camera are not not the most stable things in the world. You get what you pay for. Poeple have complained about them being off from the factory from day one and they don`t seem to stay even when adjusted.

Yeah, I'll go get some cheap color film I guess. My r has been rock solid for over a year and it gets carried around a lot. I'd expect the same from the R2A.
There's a local shop that might let me try an m lens on it to see. Somehow I feel like it's the camera.

Quick follow up. I saw this post on adjusting the alignment: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18901&highlight=alignment
That looks relatively easy. I guess my question is around whether or not the rangefinder is actually out of alignment? At infinity the two images don't come together horizontally, so does that mean I just need to adjust the horizontal alignment to the left a bit? Does adjusting the horiz alignment simply move one of the patches to the left or right? And in those instructions there is a question around a middle screw that adjusts infinity? Any ideas? Thanks...

Got my new adapaters from cameraquest today. If anything the problem looks worse. I guess I need to try to do an alignment...bah.
