I need help big time..I have an Epson R-D1 that I love with a passion that I have never felt with any of my other cameras.. It is 2 years old and now out of warrenty. It is suffering from shutter failure and nothing I do helps. So- contacted Epson and they said since it is out of warrenty they could do nothing- but did give me the names of two repair people. Now my problem is- do I try to use an unknown out of my geographic area or try to find another service center with a track record fixing this..I have noticed many members have had this problem- it is definitely mechanical according to Epson.
Someone out there that can help!!!PLEASE????
I have the 28,35 and 50mm Leica lenses. It is not my only digital camera nor am I new to rangefinders. I have used my 2 Mamiya 6mf's for years but wanted to go digital.
I have a Leica D-Lux2 and also a Nikon D70 that I converted to Infrared beside my film cameras.
Edie in trouble.

A couple of people here have reported good results having Steve's Camera of Culver City, CA, fix shutter problems on their R-D 1s:

The shutter itself is a widely-used Copal design that lots of technicians should be familiar with, but if I were in your shoes I would like the idea of sending my camera to someone who had worked on a few R-D 1s before.

thanks for the good advise. I am away and this is when this happened. So as soon as I get home tomorrow I will contact Steve's and hope he can do something for me. I love this camera and would hate for it to be unfixable.
