I just picked up a Zeiss Jena Sonnar with the serial number 3007369. Do the records exist to tell us when that was manufactured?

Thanks,
--Chris

There is a book "Thiele, Hartmut: Fabrikationsbuch Photooptik II. Carl Zeiss Jena 1927 bis 1991. Alle Photoobjektive, Prototypen, Spezialobjektive, Fertigungsnummern, Fertigungszeiten, Mengen und Lieferungen an die Kameraindustrie. 380 Seiten, 21 x 29,5 cm, 4. Auflage, München 2006, brosch. EUR 49,80"

which might answer your question. I don´t have - but perhaps some other RF-Member.

Based on the serial number, it is a very early post WW2 lens, probably manufactured in 1946. Carl Zeiss Jena in the Russian-occupied zone (later DDR) restarted lens production with serial number 3 million late in 1945.

I agree with previous poster that the Thiele book would be the best source of info. Maybe someone with the book will add a post
