Hi all,

Recently nabbed a Konica Hexanon L 50mm 2.4 collapsible for a steal. Wasnt in the market for this lens per-se, but the price was right.

After some trepidation I found that it does collapse safely on my M8. Build quality is better than I was expecting, with only a tiny amount of wiggle when extended.

The lens backfocuses just slightly on my M8, but I have a feeling that has more to do with the cheap chinese LTM adapter Im using. Doesnt seem to display any focus shift.

Compared to my summicron 35mm ASPH its probably 75% as sharp at similar apertures. Its not clinically sharp, but certainly sharp enough. Nice medium contrast and nice smooth bokeh. Perfectly usable wide open.

The little focus tab is not as nice as on my cron, but its not bad in use.

Surprisingly resistant to flare even wide open with no hood, you have to shoot directly into the sun to get real ugliness.

Will post some samples soon.

If anyone has any questions about the lens Ill do my best to answer them.

Cheers all!

Jay

75% is a completely subjective assessment after using the lens for a while, where the cron is eye bleedingly sharp the hexanon is just sharp - if that makes sense. Microcontrast seems very good, similar to the cron.

A set of a random assortment of photos taken in a variety of conditions can be found in my flickr set below, some mild PP in lightroom and photoshop have been applied. (Theyre not meant to be brilliant photos, just testing out the Hexanon in a variety of conditions)

The lens does flare relatively easily, but most of those shots were taken wide open at 2.4 with no hood and no UV/IR filter (I dont have a 40.5mm diameter filter).

This lens has certainly grown on me, it draws beautiful photos, my only real complaint is the slightly awkward FOV of 50mm on the cropped sensor M8!

Hey Jay,
I actually just picked one of these up in the classifieds. I too will be using it on an m8. I haven't been able to find the filter diameter. Can you help me out? Thanks!

Step-up rings (from 40.5mm) are cheap and plentiful. Maybe you already have a UV/IR cut filter in 43mm or 46mm? Then you could just use the Hex with a step-up ring.

As far as I know 40.5 filters are available with Foto Huppert (and probably can be ordered through B&H)
