Hi, I recently bought a Hexar AF but found it too confusing and big to my liking. so I sold it. Now, the buyer has come back with a question. Can someone please help?

>The big problem is the lightmeter, I tested a area with my light meter
> showing F5.6 with 2 Secs exposure, but with the hexar, it shoots with F16
> with 1/200 secs. That is way way out of exposure. And how come the focus
> indicater always showing 0.6M where ever I point the camera to? it should be
> between 0.6m to infinity.

Thanks! much appreciated...

I can't address the focusing problem without seeing the camera, but regarding the potential metering problem, assuming the camera really isn't broken (could happen in shipping), perhaps he/she has the camera in "M" mode, in which case it'll shoot at whatever it's set to and not the metered value. He/She shoul put the camera in "A" mode and see how the camera reacts with and without the small meter sensor window covered. If there's no difference in shutter speeds with and without covering the window, then the camera is apparently broken.

'Hope this helps, and I hope you don't suffer too much hassle...

Regards, sleepyhead

There is also a fixed focus mode with this camera which is activated by the buttons on top. The buyer may not be aware of the functions.

The variation in the reported metering is HUGE, and not likely to be an adjustment problem surely. A meter reading of 5.6 2 sec is pretty dark! Probably too dark to read the manual properly :)

Thanks Ralf. He just wrote back to say he still thinks there's a problem.
I just hope he doesn't ask me for a refund! :(

OT: I'm just having a stream of bad luck with my camera collecting lately.
This hexar seems problematic (i'm still hoping its just the buyer not knowing how to use it), my trade with nick didnt work out thanks to customs, i gave a refund for another camera I sold but the guy didnt sent my camera back! My kiev 4 broke down after i sold it ... sheesh! I think its a sign I should stop buying more! and certainly stop selling.

What's the etiquette, proper approach when selling camera gear? When do you give a refund when selling? what are my rights when buying? Either way, I seem to be getting the short end of the stick.

Wow, that's about a 12 EV difference. The camera must be in M mode and manual focus. Otherwise, there probably is something wrong. Don't forget to ask him to try a new battery.
