I can't decide if eBay is a good thing or a bad thing. Witness, friends, if you will... while despondent over my deadlined Ricoh (well, not really despondent but it makes me feel better in my own mind to say that), I found an Olympus XA with the A11 flash in what looks to be excellent condition plus it had been recently CLAed. The short version is that well, I'll have the camera in my hot little hands shortly. Damn the "Buy it NOW" button anyway! Ahem. At least I'll have a top-flight, pocketable camera to take with me to Florida now....

Doug you are not alone here in this forum. I am currently fighting my inner demon, trying very hard to justify why should I need the new Classic Nokton 40mm/1.4! But the flesh is so weak!

Yes, flesh is weak, cameras are stronger! eBay's siren song beckons. The danger is in going there at all. You may think you're just "looking around" when you do a few searches, but what if you see JUST the right thing? Your unbelieving eyes bulge as you struggle to deny or confirm what they seem to see...
Well, I got caught a couple days ago bouncing back and forth among KEH, B&H, and eBay listings of simple P&S APS cameras after I decided I didn't want to go big & fancy. No zoom lenses, please let there be a fixed f/2.8 model!
Oh no! Could that be it for only $35 BIN? A BLACK Canon Elph Jr? My trembling finger edged toward the BIN button as my conflicting thoughts wobbled uncertainly... There! I did it! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15243&item=3836519341&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

Congratulations on your "slip of the finger", Doug(2)! I've not had one, but I keep hearing how the XA is a classic gem of a pocketable RF camera. A 2.8/35mm sounds very useful, and what I've seen GeneW produce with it is impressive!

I'm bidding rightnow on a bessa 1 (the old folding one!!!) with an uncoated Skopar 105/3.5 and an external voigtlander rangefinder.....we are "already" at eur20
I'm also thinking about an Iskra (especially if the bessa goes wild high) from fedka or such. Or, maybe a Moskva 5 for the 6x9 format. Or maybe a cheaper 6x6 which i will transform to panoramic 35mm as in the recent thread shown. Or maybe both.
Especially knowing that soon 'ill not resist anymore to a film scanner (which will allow for more pano and more MF, financially).
And i just noticed (at the webshop of the guy who CLA'd my rolleicord) a Zorki 6 (!!) great working condition, 3 months warranty. Costs eur50. Alas, it comes with an industar 50/3.5... Having the long baselength RF, i could get a jupiter 50/1.5 from the fedka-type folks...hmmmm
You guys drove me crazy!!!
Yesterday, a friend of mine has handled my yashica CC the first time. Knowing me, he supposed from start that it's all-manual. "It's just extremely simple! there are no buttons on it!! it's reeeeally antique." he said.
I had a good laugh when he couldn't find the shutter speed dial

I see that we all have our own issues with the BIN bitton
At least we're all people who actually use and appreciate the cameras rather than letting them molder away in a box or something... yeah, that's it... WE"RE CONSERVATIONISTS!
OK, I feel much better now

Well Doug, picked the wrong forum to try to quit buying cameras. You'll be lucky if you don't get your own dedicated thread entitled "BIN for Doug"!

That's kind of what I'm afraid of...

Ebay used to be camera "owners" selling their older model to upgrade or whatever. Now, it's pawn-shops, garage-sellers, etc that usually know nothing about cameras. But they'll tell you "Looks like new", but they don't know how to check the meter, advance the film or even if the RF finder works!!!
It's a crap-shoot these days, yet I still can't stop myself ~ ; - )
