We don't really do holidays , maybe 5 or 6 in 40 years .
Way back when it was an SLR and 50mm .

A few years ago a Minolta AF SLR 35-80 , plus a plastic fantastic Minolta 404 Si - virtually a lightweight point and shoot - again 35-80 . The focus upon pre-paid slide film .Perfectly adequate for my modest abilities .

Now we are invited to Malaysia and I can't decide !

In terms of pure enjoyment - Leica Digilux 3 or L + 14-42 Olympus.
7mp only - more card space !! LOL .

Leica M8 35/f2.5 Color Scopar . Irreplaceable these days in retirement so cruising a bit - heavy and worried about loss or damage ... Perhaps not ...

Sensible - Sony A35 kit lens + 35 f1.8 = that original 35-80 now 51 - 120 which is great for me .
EVF in tropical sun ?
It's all a bit plastic ... but that did not bother me with the 404si ...

New Fuji X=Pro1 + 27 f2.8 ...can use the OVF , not accustomed to a new camera but could be fun to learn .

Wild card - Sony A290 ' proper DSLR finder , with above lenses - lovely colours from old CCD sensor , no low light capability ...

etc . etc . etc ....

.... Then it's just pack the well used Panasonic G1 / 14-45 with adapter and a couple of Leica mount lenses and be done with it !!

I miss the simplicity of a 50mm of little choice .

I am not crying out for advise , just pointing out that too much choice creates it's own dee'lemmas !

Undecided .

Well, I have a lot of choice to take along but I do not have a problem deciding. I just take always the same camera/lens/film combination. Just because not having to fret over loosing something that would be hard to replace and/or knowing 100% how it works and how it will deliver makes for more relax traveling. Lot of choice is not the same as hard to choose from.

Thanks .

My constant notebook - Fuji XF1 2\3 " pocket camera =I-phone substitute !
Panasonic L1 Olympus 14-42 .
Sony A35 50mm 1997 Minolta silver 35-80 [ nom / perfect 52-120 and extremely light ]
Overkill - Fuji Pro1 27 f2.8 to play with .

I know mixed systems , but good for me .

The Paradox of Choice in full steam.

Less = more enjoyment and less stress.

I get stumped for choice, and I only have three lenses and two bodies, with no overlap. Some people have so much gear I honestly don't know how they choose what to take with them.

Last Holidays I took a Nikon F100 and 28mm F2.8 ais, Af 50mm f1.8D and Af 85mm f1.8D. And lots of HP5+. Great fun to use and all good lenses for low light use. I have a feeling that half of the shots would have been just as good with my Mju 1. Sometimes all you need is a simple point and shoot.

Due to prospective inlaws I've done five trips to Malaysia in the last two or three years.

Generally it's been an M2, 28mm and 90mm, some Portra400 and Tmax400. Keep it simple. It's an complex and interesting place that lends itself (in my eyes) to documentary style photography. Don't overcomplicate things and you'll enjoy it more 😉

Thanks - we just don't do holidays , so this is a BIG DEAL for me

My 1st digital was a Canon G2 .
Sometimes it seems that the pics with this comparatively simple camera were perfectly acceptable .
4 years ago , I dug it out for a trip around London on a bus and it was a relief somehow despite some odd artefacts - just like that Minolta 404si 35-80 , advanced point and shoot bought at the airport , back in 1997 in Toronto [ more relatives ]

Suffering from the initial onslaught of Gender Dysphoria [continuing , but less manic ] , that cheap , silver , SLR , arty cafes, fascinating architecture , and the local bus were a saviour for me .

I guess I should repeat that simplicity as ASD and GD will still distance me from the many relatives .

Panasonic L1 Olympus 14-42 + 45mm f2 Rokkor .
Fulfilm X-Pro 1 27mm f2.8 - fun learning curve .

The Fuji XF1 so tiny is my I-phone substitute - with focal length translated into old money - i.e. 24mm 50mm etc - bliss !!
