My Google-Fu is weak and I cannot find the answer to this on the web. Anybody know?

Thanks...

i assume you're asking about which hood fits on that lens?

it's the canon s-50.

kevincameras has 2, one for 50 & another with case & box for 85 bucks.
they show up on ebay sometimes.

Perfect - thanks!

and i won another of these hoods, so now i have a spare.
but it's not nearly as nice as the one i got from you victor.

guess which one i'm using?

Hmm. I wonder how the length of the S-50 compares to the hood I have. It's labeled "Series VII Canon Lens 50mm F:1.5"

Now this hood came attached to an 85/1.9. It fits on a 50mm outer-diameter lens, not a 42mm one, which means it actually won't fit on the labeled 50/1.5 (which uses 40mm threads, 42mm outer diameter). However, it seems to be a perfect fit for the 50/1.4. Why is it labeled 50/1.5 then?

someone changed the adapter.
the hood for the 50/1.5 has a 42mm clamp on adapter.

there's a pic on kevincameras site.

I think Joe has it right. The hood is for the 1.5 but the adaptor was changed. Now, this brings up an interesting point because I have an adaptor ring that will fit the 1.4, I wonder if one of my hoods will screw into it.

Now I have a mission this morning. Thanks for the idea.

The S-50 is the official hood, but any generic 48mm screw-in hood will do just as well (I have an S-50, but use a 48mm screw-in for general use as it's more secure).

The Canon 50mm/1.4 takes 48mm filters. You may be able to find a third party lens hood in the 48mm size.

If not, put a 48/49mm filter thread adapter on the lens and use one the quite common 49mm lens hoods.

The "Filter Connection" has quite a selection of sizes and good prices:

The Filter Connection is a nice place. Just a few towns over from me. It is not a store, just an office with lots of supply. I popped in to pick up a couple items and was treated very well. Real people behind an e-business, not a faceless warehouse.

Oh, I use a 48mm collapsible rubber hood right now on my 50/1.4. A real cheap solution.
