I have the Zeiss hood (1119 s 40.5) for the Opton 50 1.5 lens, but it blocks the viewfinder pretty significantly. I have seen a range of 40.5 slotted hoods available on auction (mostly from China) Do any among us have favorable experience with a particular version that can be recommended? A pic would be appreciated.

I have the typical slotted and tilted 43mm hood on my Nikkor Milllenium 50 1.4, which seems to work well on it, just curious what others have found for the Zeiss Opton, whether the tilted or straight shade preferrable slotted.

Thanks

I have a Chinese manufactured Ebay special. No idea who actually made it. There is a small amount of blockage on both my Contax II and my Contax IIIa but nothing significant.

I threaded the hood into a Tiffen UV filter which is then threaded into the lens. Not sure what difference that makes but I have had thread problems with some of this 3rd party lens hoods in the past.

Any of the vented 40.5mm hoods work well as an improvement over the 1119 or the pre-WWII slip-on (can't remember the ZI model #). In my experience, if you're going to be using the lens on a Leica M body or similar w/framelines, the tilted versions are slightly less obtrusive because of the higher placement of the VF, but on the II/III & IIa/IIIa bodies (or a "Barnack" LTM body w/similarly low profile) the straight-sided versions are fine.
