I'm surfing around and searching here and ending up more confused than anything else. Obviously, the filter ring is 40mm. However, what size cap and which hood or hoods will fit this? I presume that Mr. Gandy's 40mm hood would be one option, but what were the origonals?

Thanks,

William

Several online dealers have the rectangular Canon hood for the 35/2.8 and 50/1.9 right now, some at very reasonable prices. Start at KEH. Best choice by far for that lens.

I had seen it (esp. the bargain one) but wasn't sure if it would fit. Thanks!

Yeah, the 42mm slip-on Series VI adapter is what connects it to the camera. Be sure that's included, or it's not such a good deal.

Series VI is helpful as I already have some from my Moskva. Good to know, thanks!

if you want original canon go for the one that was made for the lens, showing in chris's pics.

if you don't want to waste your time, get the one from cameraquest. i just ordered another for my 50/1.5 - should be here this week. and the original wont necessarily be cheaper than the 30 buck one from gandy.

series 6 filters are easier to find than 40mm filters.
that being said, it's hard to find clean series 6 filters, i went through a bunch of them before i finally ended up with a nice clean set. (which i don't use now as i have been finding 40mm filters on ebay lately)

and just to add, that canon rectangular one, for the 50/1.9 is plain ugly!
it takes away from the compact size of your camera & lens too.
