Hey guys,

I shoot Fujifilm Superia and I'm not sure whether my question applies to other types film types/manufacturers.

I went to the lab yesterday to get my photos developed and printed. I told them to not print the first 3 frames. What I had in mind were the first 3 blank frames at the beginning of the roll before the counter gets to '1'.

They didn't print the 3 frames that actually wanted after the blank ones. :bang: I need to know what to tell them next time..

How many frames are there before the first "proper" frame? Is this the same for all manufacturers?

Thanks,

you're talking about the film leader. Most places will skip the leader frame without asking, they know enough to not to print blank frames ;)

Tell them not to print the blanks at the start and the end of the roll, that you just want the photos.

i actually have people ask for those frames sometimes, fuji minilab scanners tend to include them by default at the start especially.

Maybe ask them to start printing at "The first frame with a full image"...
For the most part they should know where to start but since you're concerned with what you're seeing maybe they don't...
Spend extra time at the shop...talk with the Manager, Tech or anyone who may be operating the printer...get to know them...allow them to know you and what you need/want from them...
If they know that you are very serious about your results they will most likely respond with a higher quality product...
I did this with my local Lab...they all knew me and I got the results I needed and expected...most people that drop their film off at One Hour places don't complain and will accept sub-quality prints...therefore the lab thinks they are doing all right...
