I am taking the track of keeping a special envelope with cash in it in my safe deposit box, drawing funds here and there from investment income, photographic services, and extra cash (coins, loose bills in house) so the purchase pain is not as great as taking the hit all at one time. I plan on getting one sometime next year (after tax season) when production numbers and in store stocks of M9's are higher (and possibly more options on the camera like a REAL CHROME FINISH) and any issues with the camera (if there are any, so far it looks good).

Some of you may have bought one , others may be saving for one. I am just interested in the different approaches taken for a $6,999.00 purchase.

i think most of my m9 fund will come from downsizing and selling other equipment which is used less frequently. at some point, an m3 with summarit; an xpan 1 with 2 lenses, and finally an m8 can all contribute to a new or dealer demo m9.

good luck with your savings plan

Well, basically I plan on using my M8 and wait it out... Will probably take 2-3 years before I can get one for a decent amount of money, demo or second hand.

I suppose I will then be selling all my medium format gear, unless it has deprecated to zero of course...

If I could have done 100% of my photography with an M9, as compared to 95%, then I guess I would have sold what I needed to sell to get one!

Good luck to all of you who have decided to get in early, I think it is really worth it - unless the M9 has problems like the M8 in the start. Which I doubt, Leica can simply not risk their reputation like that...

I keep telling you guys! I'm going digital as soon as my M2 and M3 bodies wear out. Honest! Until that day comes I'm lucky because I've never had any GAS problems

1. Auction my wife and two dogs on ebay. This probably would not bring in much, except for my Siberian Husky, who's a handsome guy. He might fetch a pretty penny.

2. Hold a charity car wash in the closest abandoned Seven Eleven parking lot.

3. Offer my collected photographic works to a museum.

4. Hold up the closest non-abandoned Seven Eleven.

5. Offer a dealer an even trade for my D700.

Oh well, I think I'll just continue to forget about it!

I'll offer $5,000 for the wife if she's a decent cook. I get to play with my ex's two dogs when I'm seeking canine companionship. Neither of them can cook anyway.

Not gonna happen here. I'd buy a full-frame digital at $2000 or so. Maybe. Otherwise, I've got better uses for my money.

If I wanted one, I'd write a check from the "camera account" accumulated after 25 years of saving "allowance", ie monthly discretionary funds. Just having a hard time letting Digital take a stronghold in my just-for-fun hobby.

The last time I bought film from Freestyle, I spent about 500USD, and my freezer is still full. I probably shoot about 100 rolls a year, so wanting to justify a M9 acquisition, at current prices it would take me 20 years to break even. The main problem though, is that I do not like the look of digital B&W, hence I am going to save slowly, in order to give Leica a chance to come up with a better product for B&W shooters. I am just curious if it will happen in my lifetime...

Thank you for your generous offer, getting me more than half way to the M9 purchase price. Upon reflection, I don't think I could find a replacement who would put up with me so I will stand pat with this one.

Bailey, the Husky, just reminded me of my dependence on him for modeling and, of course, he's right.

I don't think an M9 is in my furure.

I am waiting until my DMR (discontinued and no longer supported) becomes a rare, classical Leica historical item. After I sell it at a Christies auction, I can then choose between the Mxx and Sxx. All I need is time.

Take what you want, and pay for it, saieth the LORD. (Old Spanish proverb).

Be careful what you pray for, for you will surely get it. (Anyone know the origin of this one?)

I was about to sell all of my Nikon gear to get the M9, but I calmed down and got an M8 instead. I will go RF FF later, but now is not a good time if you're not rich, and I'm not. I've already got a digital FF that I love, but it's just too bulky for carrying around. So the M8 will have to do for everything but low light. 🙂
