How does one safely store external viewfinders when it's not used on the camera but is being carried around in a bag? My CV 15mm viewfinder feels so delicate and that big front lens element is just screaming to get scratched..

Small leather pouch (the one that come with Contax G lenses)

Fred

My Nikkors (35, 85, 135 and varifocal) all came with a small pouches - kind of looks like a little leather "treasure chest".

I picked up a spare on eBay to use with the Skopar 28

One possibility too is one of those small felt bags that some jewelry comes in. - or even, for that matter, a small jewelry "clamshell" case.

In the shoe, usually.

If I'm out with a kit including my 21 and Bessa R, the finder is always mounted to the camera. Then I can refer to it.

If I'm using the M2 and 75, with 21 along, the 75 finder (CV) came with a cool little suede-y drawstring bag, which will keep whichever one is off the camera safe.

Just at home, my RF lenses are stored in a hard case with pick'n'pluck interior, in which I have picked'n'plucked spots for finders.

little bag or case

little bag or case

Hello:

The expected solution is a classic chamois bag or hard leather case-CV sells a combined lens/viewfinder dual compartment case.

The horrible truth, in my case, is that they most often go into a convenient empty 35mm film box.

You could first line the empty 35mm film cannister (you know, the plastic thing the film cartridge comes in) with a micro-fiber cloth used for cleaning lens filters.

Go get yourself a nice bottle of Crown Royal. Use the purple pouch it comes in for your finder and have fun with the drink. 😀

Using "industrial strength" Velcro (from Home Depot etc in the US) cover the top of the finder with hooks and the butt of the rear lens cap with loops, or vice-versa (it's like tape, has a sticky back). Put them together and put them both in a lens bag of some sort. Makes a compact package and keeps the finder from rattling around loose, possibly getting lost.

Now I don't feel so bad for doing the same thing
