How hard is it to remove a Leica IIIG top plate?

Thinking of painting my top and bottom plates, but I'm clueless about how complicated is taking off the top plate. I intend on using the "Gun" paint that seems to be a durable choice.

Any special tools needed? My camera is in perfect working order; will I be disturbing anything by removing the top plate?
