My RD-1 is still under warranty and the LCD and rangefinder adjustment needed repair. I used the Epson service telephone number that is often listed on this forum and reached a helpful person who was familiar with the RD-1. I sent my RD-1 to Epson to the Plainsville, IN service center a month ago for repair but as of today, I have not gotten it back. The Epson service center can only confirm that they received the camera but can not estimate when the camera will be returned.
What has been Epson's history on repair turnaround?

FYI; I received my R-D1 from Epson repair yesterday... just short of 2 months since I sent it to them for an LCD repair/replacement. They returned my original camera and it works great. Can't wait to use it again!

They've had mine for 1 month now for a failed shutter. They reportedly are 'waiting for a part' . I'm about ready to call then agian.

I waited once 7 weeks for a R-D1 (and the camera came back with a even more disaligned RF), once 6 weeks (for a sensor cleaning of the R-D1s).

Sorry to say it but Epson seems to be supersonic. It took Leica 7 months to have the rangefinder adjusted on a new M7. It was sent to Germany under warranty and I nearly forgot what my camera looked like.

I think I am going to have to run away from Rangefinders. I can't accept more than a week turn-around for repairs. I have been a NPS member for years and get the occasional Nikon Repair in about a week. The Hasselblad shops I deal with take about a week. A month... can't do that.

Epson just sent me a brand new RD-1 said my old one went to the scrap bin... (#1850).. just in case it turns up again ( I bought it as a refresh from Epson).

They failed to send me a stap and battery so I'm waiting on that.

As for the M8 taking months to repair that seals the deal on me NEVER working with a new Leica. An now I will not shed a tear knowing that is the case if Leica goes under forever. Spending $4000+ on a camera that can not be repaired or replaced in less than 2 weeks is an unforgiveable sin. :bang: I'm amazed there is anyone that would buy a Leica M8 or M6 knowing this is the case. Sorry to rain on this parade but I won't do business with companies that think this is good or adequate service.

PS... I shoot the Fuji/Nikon digital bodies. My first and ONLY repair needed on an S2 (2 years ago) took just two weeks and was "free" -- telling them I bought an S3 might have helped.... now the S3 is long in the tooth and I am very happy with my S5... and contemplating another.

As for my ranting about turnaround... I have a Leaf Aptus for my Hasselblad and when I have a technical question I can't prais Leaf enough fro answering e-mails in less that an hour or EVEN CALLING ME via a TELEPHONE to get directly to the issue and solving it ON THE SPOT. I love those GUYS at LEAF!!! Good stuff.. even with the occasional bug!
