How loud is the Yashica T4? The film advance and the focus sound? I want a little and inexpensive AF camera for candid / street shots but I want a camera silent like my Oly XA but with AF capabilities.

The loudest thing about the camera is the inital film loading and then film winding at the end of a roll. This would be noticeable on the street if someone was standing next to you....

BUT if you are taking pics with this little beast it's pretty quiet. The autofocus does make some noise but nothing you would hear when using with all the background noise on the street, same goes for film advance. As long as you realise its no Hexar AF in "silent mode" then you will enjoy this camera and its amazing picture quality...I have had mine since new and it still surprises me how good it is.

In my experience, it's quieter than a Hexar RF and a Rollei 35s.

For its price, I think it's the best P 'n S you can get.

It's really quiet. I don't notice the shutter at all, and the film advance is a muted "whirr" noise that is fairly low in freqency. It's a fantastic camera.

Great camera!

Great camera!

As stated above, the film load noise would be noticeable. So long as you're not loading film in church you should be okay. :)

I've had mine for years without any trouble. It always goes with me.

The *only* feature I find somewhat annoying is that the default mode when powered on is for flash and one has to manually press the flash button to get past it. If I think I'm going to use mine I simply leave it turned ON, thus avoiding the issue. It does not eat up batteries, so don't worry it.

This really is a fine camera. A great lens, reasonably small and foolproof. But it's not perfect. I agree with the comments that the film and rewinding is a lower frequency whir, definitely less noticeable than the higher-pitched "eee" you get more typically. There is a noise associated with the lens moving into position right before the shutter fires.

Even if you prefocus, the lens will then move out to take the picture, then retract to its resting on position. So in addition to the noise, there's always some shutter lag. There is no noise when you prefocus; it's just after you trip the shutter. I wanted to point out to you about the shutter lag, in case you're thinking this is a "decisive moment" camera.

There is also noise when you turn the camera on -- sort of a "bzz-clack" as the (flimsy) lens door slides open and the lens extends. So if you want to be stealthy, you may need to keep the camera on and protect the lens. (And, as someone else mentioned, be sure it's set to "flash off" or you'll certainly not be stealthy.)

Thank you so much for the detail answers and for helping me. I really like P&S because I like to have a camera with me all the time and I love to get some good street / candid moments, on the other hand, I like sharpness and good contrast that’s why I started to look to this little camera. I really love my Oly XA but, with the lens wide open, I usually don’t calculate the right distance to the subject and I get some OOF pics.

You can check my gallery for some examples of the type of pictures that I like to take. :)
