How many photos did you print in 2009?

Was talking to a friend last night who is a long term, serious amateur photographer, and he noted that since moving to digital he shoots a lot more and prints a lot less. Which prompts the question, whether you shoot film or digital, how many photos did you actually print last year? I'm talking physical prints, in the darkroom or from the inkjet printer?

I think in some ways it is related to the question of why we photograph.

I don't know the exact figure but it was more than 200. Mostly 10x8s, some 9.5x12s. Mixture of colour and black and white.

If I include those that I didn't print but took down a minilab (scans) it would be more than 500 easily. These would all be 6x4s from the mini lab.

Actually - a heck of a lot more since using the printer, it's so much easier, hassle-free to get superb quality prints now, my portfolios are bulging!. I have to admit that the enlarger in my shop is redundant, I have done wet printing on and off for fifty years, but now it's mostly colour - the Epson does it so well.

I finished 1 box of 50 sheets of Multigrade IV in 11x14 size in 2009 and started a second box (used perhaps 10 sheets). I generally make 9x13.5 prints from 35mm and 11x11 prints from MF. That's an average years production for me, some years more when printing for a show and some years less if work keeps me out of the darkroom.

i don't print at home any longer, all done by the one of the local labs.

printed maybe 60 or so, mostly 8x10.
printed, framed and hung on my walls, maybe 2 dozen or so.

around 50-60 prints? i still haven't a space to setup a darkroom at home, so hire out a local darkroom a few times a year. 2010 will see me printing many more images.

I only printed ones that sold plus a couple that I gave to friends (mostly portraits of them or their kids). I can't afford to print my stuff unless there's money being exchanged for the print right now. It doesn't bother me much though, my website is my main venue to show my work and a lot of people see it there, and I have been selling stuff fairly often the last year. Eventually I want to print a set of prints of my very best to make a portfolio, but I don't know who I'd show it to, lol. The people around here don't care, my audience is elsewhere and they use the website.

Less than I would have liked...

About 80 15x15 inch prints and about 40 ranging from 11x14 to 17x24 though only a few at 17x24.

I would say close to zero, with the exception of some family portraits I did, but I didn't print those, my mom did. Actually, I really can't recall making any prints.

I probably made about 2 dozen prints in 2009 but only framed about 6 of them. Either 11x14 or 8x12.

Edit: All wet darkroom prints.

Probably three prints in 2009 (from digital files through a printing service). But since doing a darkroom printing course and commissioning my own darkroom I've made about 20 decent prints. Will probably do three to five prints per week from now on. Ive got about six years of negs to play with (since rediscovering rangefinders). :)

I don't think I could guess, well over 2,000 at the very low end, not counting proofsheets. I print 3 days a week most weeks, 1 day a week minimum and end up taking about four weeks off. All wet prints, mostly B&W fiber, maybe 5% C-prints.

I photograph because I can't stop. I print because I enjoy every minute of it.

Zero in 2009, and in every earlier year.

I bought an enlarger, trays, etc., a few months ago. But, all the good advice I've received here notwithstanding, I can't seem to stir up the interest to black out the windows and actually print something.

I'm not sure what that suggests. I do know that I would not frame and hang prints on the wall, or send them away as gifts. I'd most likely stack them up in a box. I've considered buying a decent printer, but the initial and recurring costs are off-putting.

I guess I'd be interested in turning the question around: How many didn't print in 2009, or have never printed, or don't think they will ever print?

I did 56, but a few of those were printed twice, all 9x13.5 on 12x18 paper

this year four, so far ... no motivation in these dark winter days, I wish I could do Florence in April
