Or vice versa.

New Chanel commercial on TV. Two lovely people on a train (Europe) keep missing each other... late in the commercial the lady takes a pic with a Leica digital... shoots and chimps the pic of the fellow on the back just as the clip ends.

Indeed...backwards

Either way I dont think it would have had the same effect if the camera said "Casio" or "Benq" on the front.

But the M8 was "stealthed" with the Red dot and "M8" covered with black tape. If Leica paid for the placement, I doubt they'd request the logos to be covered.

I think an R-D1 would work just as well in this case.

Anyway, I don't Think Chanel asked Leica, nor would Leica object.

Cheers,

Oh yes they asked, ad agencies do not take any risks on that. You can be sure they even had meetings to talk about it. Chanel is one brand and Leica is another one, each of them having a positioning to promote and defend.

I beleive only photographers noticed that it was a Leica in Audrey Tautou's hand (and BTW, the way she holds it show that she's NOT used to use a Leica !).

...IMO, the 99.5 % of the public looks more at Audrey Tautou's beauty !

Is it me, or does that look like a 0.95 Noctilux on that M8? And yes, she is either a small woman or that camera is a bit on the big side. Almost as if she shot another camera at the time of shooting the commercial and the M8 was photoshopped into it later. Would explain the finger hovering over the camera and the left hand position, which would agree more with a bigger DSLR.

The camera looks really big in her hands. But what's wrong with the way she holds the camera. I think it's a natural hand position if you use a heavy lens. It prevents the camera from tilting forward.

Absolutely in agreement on the camera technique. Left elbow to the rib cage, heel of the left hand cradling the body and the left index finger and thumb to focus.

That's the way to do it!

Chanel wants to be tied to people of taste for quality. If the girl had pulled up a 'Panasony'-camera - and wore Levis jeans, it would be sending the wrong signals; 'cheap'.

I fully understand Chanel.

Chanel, Hermes...who cares.

The Queen of England was photographed holding a Leica too...decades ago.

Next would be Burberry, with the camera covered in their "famous" tartan; knock-off soon available, cheap. :D

you and Lagerfeld really close then?

We can't assume that the camera Tautou is shown holding is the same camera used to display the images.

Can anyone guess when this was likely to have been filmed? Before or after the M9 rollout?

Now if the woman had pulled out a Canon F with the huge motor drive and battery pack, then I would have said "This is a miracle" or maybe "Santa claus really exists".
