I have an elmar 50/3.5, M bayonet, and I'd like to sell it to finance the purchase of a wideangle lens.
But I can't find the correct price for it: it never appeared on the bay, nor here in the classifieds.
So I'm gonna ask you this: where will be easier to sell it? And, most of all, what would be a fair price for a lens like this, in excellent conditions but without caps?

If I´d be in your place, I´ll first try to check if some other similar lens have been sold before, at which price and when.
I guess this is the only way to get some info about this particular lens you have.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Thank you, Ernesto. I tried to do a fast search here in the forum and on the net, but I never found another one for sale...

This is the 39mm filter thread f3.5 50mm mount (looks like the f2.8) and was made for late 1950`s M2 and M3 a "fair" price for this lens in the condition you state is $350/$400
(collectors might pay more, though it`s a rarer lens, there`s not so much demand for it)
this is an "insiders" lens, smart people will buy it while it`s pretty uncommon -
(I`d be interested in it, but I don`t have a late 50`s SS M3 to put it on)
this is a collectable lens someone smart will snap it up from you no problem....
Here`s one that`s been on ebay for a long time (at least two months now)
*notice it does have front ring damage, that`s why it`s NOT sold*

I'd put it up for trade for a Canon f1.8 or f2.0 35mm
(those are two decent vintage 35mm`s to look after)
or sell it and buy a new Voigtlander one

Like Tom said. Or trade it against a 40/2.

Someone made a big MISTAKE pricing there, while it`s full of good intentions, these online price guides are often unrealistic and play on the low side of what the market really is.......

I have that lens and it's a very good one. Mine is in fantastic shape but I don't have the caps.

How a seller could call that lens a 9 out of 10 when it has a defect like that is beyond me. In my world, that sits at about a 7, even if the optics are perfect. Or am I being unrealistic?

Beware the online price guide, it is full of very optimistic prices that dont reflect the current state of things some times. Try to get at least 300-350 for your lens.

so you suggest not to put it on ebay, right? if this lens is so unknown it's better not to risk.
It's on the FT section of the classifieds from a week or so, and I've asked in trade the same things you (Tom and ferider) suggested...
Let's see if there's anybody interested!

Don't worry, put it on eBay with a $9.95 starting price, 10 day auction.
There are tens of thousands of people on eBay who know exactly what it is.
Take good photos of it, and you'll get market price or higher.
