So an auction for a CLE grip ended today. The final bid price was some $231 or so ( 😕 😱 😕 😱 ).

For the unfortunate folk who bid on it and didn't see it when it came up first: it had a BIN of $109 or $119, don't remember exactly.

I guess I've been an instrument of evil. Or you might say I'm helping the economy 😀 . For no earthly reason, knowing full well that I would be outbid, I had placed a bid at the starting price: $65. I wouldn't pay any more for a mere mechanical grip which is really only a piece of plastic or metal. Isn't this just ridicolous 🙂 ?

The seller ought to send along a commission my way, really.

It was that Japanese collector (I assume) whose two late bids drove the price up to more than double. I recall seeing the grip at $80 and $81, then right about $100. As I was pondering entering my own bid, I refreshed the window and saw the price had doubled! At that point I became a spectator. The guy who won it must have been very determined, such that his earlier bid kept getting bumped up but still took it!

A while ago, when Nikon introduced their G lenses, you could buy the import version of the 70-300 at B&H for $99. But those resourceful buyers who litter eBay would go and pay over $150 for the same lens... Saw it a number of times. Granted, I don't know if they were buying the US kind, but what's the difference at a given moment?

Do you guys remember the $1600 Yashica GSN on eBay? That was a classic!
