Somebody comments on your photo.

Do you comment again with a 'Thank You', or not?

I have been sending thank you's, but other people don't seem to. I think I'm going to stop.

I often send thanks, sometimes waiting until there are multiple commenters to thank all at once. Especially if the comment seems to expect response, or is particularly thoughtful. Then again, sometimes I don't... 🙂 I do think it's a very nice thing to receive comments at all. Without comments, one wonders if it fell flat, or had an effect sufficient in itself that just didn't spark any commentary...

I sometimes reply, sometimes on the picture, in a pm or an email or sometimes not. And sometimes I go round after a bit and delete my replies after the commenter has had time to see them. Sometimes I just leave it; I guess it depends on the comment, what I think of the photo, what I had for breakfast...

It depends on You and only You.
BTW, some people like to upload batches. Nice to see full series of images with common idea, but why repeating the same image, or a little bit changed angle of view about? Seems not wise...😕

Yes, that batch thing of near identicals annoys me some.

I put up my one image, and three minutes later somebody uploads 20 all nearly the same of their kid.

Yeah I agree. What's the point of it? Is it because they think people are interested in seeing "Lil Johnny" 1-20? Or is it just because they want somewhere to store their photos online? Hmmmm ...

On the original issue, on this forum I send a PM to thank someone for comments. I'm old school and worry about capacity of the site. Some forums I have used asked that thanks and other similar responses be limited so as to save space. It may not be a problem here. I like the suggestion to wait till several have comments and then thank them all. I guess I haven't had that meny to even consider the issue. 😱

Jon,

A lot of the time I feel a bit self conscious about commenting on other people's pics due to my own level of inexperience. I don't mind if they don't respond to my comment though. When someone comments on one of my photos it gives me a real buzz ... and I feel very encouraged by the fact that they showed enough interest to pass an opinion ... positive or otherwise.

When you mention responding to someone's comment on your work ... do you mean via the thread attached to the pic ... or a PM to the poster?

Cheers ... Keith

Somebody else must have an opinion...

I try and post a thanks after a day or so if I've had a couple of comments - and always do when someone has taken the time to ask a question - as I often do when commenting on someone else's shots.

I try and browse the gallery every day - it's the best source of imagery I've come across...outside of wildlife and macro genres - and those I have enough of elsewhere...I come to RFF for something different to my usual shooting. 🙂

I only ever leave positive comments - only commenting on shots that really grab my eye (and it syas much for RFF that there are several of those a day usually). I don't believe there are many bad shots uploaded...just some that don't connect with me...I feel it would be unfair to leave negative comments - just because something doesn't grab ME doesn't mean that someone else won't find it awesome - and that's especially true of street style shots...

🙂

I only ever leave positive comments on others work.

When people comment on my photo I usually leave a further 'Thank you' comment because I never use the PM system.

Jim I think what we see as duplicates is actually just one photo upload that has been tagged with multiple categories. Then the Gallery software displays that photo as if it were duplicated.

When I respond to a comment, I do it in the gallery thread where the comment was left. This does have one advantage, that then the pic is again placed into the recent comment stack in the Gallery main page for others to take note of!

Multiple uploads?
Did you search the forums on this subject?
The solution is (I will say it only once - ref. the popular BBc series ALLO,ALLO)
Upload the picture to your private gallery.
Once it is there, copy it to other galleries.

I got the impression that this site becomes more and more poluted with threads dealing with the same subject.
So, follow members, before asking for a solution by opening a new thread, do a forum search to find out if your problem was not already solved.

DO NOT GET ANGRY, IT IS XMAS

Best wishes to all

Wim

If someone takes the time to comment on one of my images, I try to take the time to thank them. I don't always reply immediately, but I try to at some point.

I do not expect a reply or a thank you to any comment I make, however. I also use the PM feature to comment and question, too.

Regarding commenting: I try to limit how many comments I have in the comment queue, too. Sometimes I'll be looking at images and start commenting, getting carried away, and then I'll realize that every comment in the comment queue is mine. 😱 Ooops!

🙂

Sometimes i wait for a day and then say thank you, preferably after more than a comment, but if not i just want the person who commented to see that "thank you" and not to feel ignored. At least that sounds ethical to me, though i'm one person who always forgets to check back after commenting on a photograph.

I enjoy comments that pose a question and lead to a discussion, and try to respond to those. The 'great shot' comments make me warm and happy for two seconds, but there's not much to say in response. 🙄
