How to make your own Digital Leica!

Yes indeed. Scary last picture. Can - with some difficulty- understand why people collect original WW2 uniforms etc, even if they are German, but people with fake Nazi stuff I just don't get.

I agree. Seems a bit sad considering the history.

But the camera had me intrigued.

I think someone had posted a link to this earlier, but the camera wasn't completed then (I think). It's nice to see it complete and working now. :)

...but we do have to give the guy credit for the job, even with his bad taste in uniforms.

elsewhere on RFF there is a post with videos of both this camera AND of another japanese DIY'r who did the same thing using a real LTM leica as the basis for his engineering "feat."

If you want to take pictures of your WWII re-enactment group, then you need a period camera. So it makes sense

What is guy has done is to cut a "sony" sized hole in an old camera, and stuff a digicam in it.
Isn't the point of a rangefinder, to use the viewfinder, and interchangeable lenses?

Paying USD 140 for the shell of a camera was too much i think.

The donor body was sourced from E Bay. It's a Russian copy.
I searched myself on E Bay and there's a few guys in the Ukraine are selling these.

cool, I have seen this before, but dont understand why they dont put in a D-Lux 3 or 4 and make it a "real" leica digital.

That would be too expensive for most people.

This is more of a "project" IMO... Once it's complete it would probably end up in a desk draw.
I can't imagine anybody getting any reasonable use out of such a device.

Has been posted at least twice before. Somewhere here there's a thread which contains more links to similar DIY projects.

The camera is a cheap Russian knockoff.
