It's hard to tell until the last few minutes of the auction. Often at the last minute the pro buyers use software to quickly outbid everyone else.

You would almost certainly need to find a European buyer for that price, with the US dollar currently so weak against the Euro.

Not only that, one of the negative dings is for not shipping an item and no email communication. That's inexcusable. I doubt this will be a good measuring stick for the current value of this lens. It will definitely keep me out of the bidding.

but if I would buy from an American seller I would have to add about 25% fees/taxes for import into the EU. And this would be too expansive.
But if now anyone would sell within the EU for USD 1081.- feel free to contact me. Or import as American tourist yourself and sell afterwards ;-)

I won the auction. I too was put off by the feedback but the seller agreed to let me pick up the lens. The lens is for all intents new. There isn't a mark on it. The only other one availabe was from a european sell at $1500US.

Good for you, Felix. I'm glad it worked out. I'm now in the middle of a deal for a 100mm for US $1000, so I think the price you paid was the current going rate in the USA. Prices in Europe are bound to be higher because of the strong Euro lately.
