I have some work published in BnW Magazine - one i've liked and wanted to be published in for several years. A funny story in that i submiitted work in 2003/4 for an open submission didn't get in and a fews weeks ago recieved an email from the magazine to say my work had been selected for a Portfolio of Excellence Award in 2006 (for work shot in 2003!)

For those of you who visted my gallery here on RFF and took an interest in my Disability in Cambodia project - working with the Cambodia Trust - a more completed portfolio of this is now available as a PDF download (39MB) from here:

http://www.webphotomag.com/mag/mag.php?issue=5

This new URL link should now avoid the blank page when downloading the PDF file. If the link doesn't work (it does on my mac) you may have to cut and paste it.
This has been designed by Jerome Muffat-Meridol (i think he's made a great job of marrying image and text) Thank you Jerome 🙂 His magazine is always on the lookout for submissions from photographers.

Congratulations to a well deserved publication!

Many wonderful pictures, especially those lith-printed ones (am I right about the technique?)

BTW, the link doesn't work to click on, but copy-paste works.

Simon,

I have always admired the quality of your work. This porfolio is outstanding and very inspiring. This just shows that good work is rewarded, albeit sometimes in round-about ways.

I'll have to pick up a copy of BnW. Congrats.

Simon: Well done mate.

I want to see these but even with a copy and paste I get a 'loading' for ten minutes and no images.

Try copying the link and saving it to your hard drive instead.

Simon, the images are extraordinarily powerful, and it is not just the subject matter.

I was especially moved by the picture and story of Penh Puth, the blind ferryman.

I waited ten minutes, I should have waited eleven. Yes, I've seen it now. Even if you're on dial up (I'm on 1Mbps) it is worth waiting for.

Great photos Simon and evidence of a real commitment to that community.

I hope your images reach a wider audience.

Thank you.

thanks for your encouraging comments and Jon i appreciate your patience in the time to download the PDF file - i am working on way to show this work on my website which is being re-designed in more user friendly format.

EmiGil - I haven't seen the spread in BnW mag yet -the images were scans from lith prints (in 2003) but converted to B/W for the magazine.

Thanks again everyone for looking
Simon

Excellent news! I have admired your work here a lot here. It is beutiful pictures that show these people and their disabilities in a way that is hard to stop looking at, as the best pictures are. At the same time they show real people with respect instead of the clichés of people shown in the news.
They allso got me curious about lith printing.

(If I had $1200 to spare, I know which one to buy from your gallery shop.)

Matti, Todd, Nick and Sbug thanks for the comments

@Matti my site is being redesigned with many pics coming off it and print prices reduced to a more reasonable amount. This should be up and running in a couple of weeks al lbeing well.
Re the lith prints Most of the PDF work was scanned direct from film although the 120 work was scanned liths converted back to B/W to match the rest of the work.

@Nick -i'm meeting Jerome (whose based in Paris) here in London tomoro for the first time after months of emailing so i'll ask him about the best ways to get this work in a format which is more user friendly- this is all at the experimental stage for me -
it is one thing making the work - it is quite another trying to get it out in the public domain.....

Truely great work Simon. I have looked over your site many a times, but to have so much brought together this way is great. Your work in Cambodia reminds me of the simultaneous dedication to photography and people that made W. Eugene Smith's Minamata project so powerfull. Spectacular work indeed.

haha, i was just looking at the issue and spotted your work (i loved yours, and the whole issue was great) and now i found this thread!

🙂 Thanks Einolu i'm still in the dark i've not seen it yet.

Thanks pesphoto and EnochRoot for your kind comments.
I actually met Jerome for the first time tonight and had a great evening 🙂 Jerome promised a faster download fix tomoro (GMT) time. Its still early days with this PDF file as it's a big download @41MB. I just wanted to get it out to guage some kind of response.
Eventually we will try to do this as a paper thing.....in a more traditional format.
