HU: Panasonic 25mm f1.7 Asph discounted to $99 at BHPhotovideo

WOW! Excellent deal.
Do I need this lens, Lynn?
I use mainly SLR and RF lenses on my M 4/3 cameras.

Thanks for the HU. I put an order in for a couple. Wife and/or daughter always seem to get their hands on my gear.

Raid, do you have a fast 25mm RF or SLR lens? Don't forget this is a native AF lens for m4/3. If I had an m4/3 body it would be a no-brainer, unless I already had a m4/3 equivalent. I can always use a 50mm-equivalent fov lens - mainly for portraits.

Cheers,

I placed an order. Thanks for the tip. My 24/25 lenses are slow. I started out using Olympus (not so good) lenses, and then I switched to excellent RF and SLR lenses that were in the end tele lenses on the M 4/3 camera. This will be my first good 50mm lens on the M 4/3.

This is not the same as the Panasonic/Leica 25 mm lens, correct? ($99 for that lens would be too good to be true). I've got the Oly M. Zuiko 25/1.8 lens for m4/3, which is no slouch.

I found a review on ephotozine. I don't know how their testing compares with others, but FWIW they speak well of it, apart from a susceptibility to flare - so you'd need to use a lens hood.

Edit: another user review here.

No. Its the 25mm 1.7 the pana leica is 25mm 1.4. Initial online discussions of this new lens are good.

The lens is larger than the Olympus 25mm 1.8.

Same deal at Adorama.

The lens needs to have alens hood to reduce flare when aiming it at the sun or a direct light course. Filter size is 48mm, I think. It is a very light lens, and the optics are excellent, I have read in the reviews. Nobody said it is a dog (so far).

I bought 3 ;-)

Hoping that the price goes up enough in another month or three so that I can sell the other two & render the third free. Will see what this speculation on lens futures leads to...

Too much risk for my blood! but I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there has bougt a pile of them. Even In the worst case scenario I don't see a lens like this being worth less than $100 new.

Argh. I'll be in NYC in a couple of weeks but I am betting that they will not have it, and if they do, not at that price!
Abstained from preordering as I'd like to collect in store, option I saw it does not allow IIRC.

Could make really good use of that lens

Has anyone received the 25mm lens? I placed an order when this thread was initiated. I immediately received a notice that the lens was back ordered and now the order has been cancelled.

I figured that would happen. Oh well, I doubt that I've used that system in over a year.

I also received a notice that my order was canceled. Pretty crappy to cancel without giving us a choice to wait.

They cancelled my order too. Very poor form from Panasonic, this will sour me on their products for a while. No thanks on buying it at over 2x the sale price.
