Hello all.

I dropped off my Bessa R at the local camera shop today to have the rangefinder mech adjusted and.....

There just happened to be a great looking Canonet G-III QL sitting in one of the cases! I looked it over and everything worked - even the self timer. All of the shutter speeds sounded accurate and the shop owner recently replaced the foam on the film door.

The finder could use a cleaning (that would help make it a bit brighter according to what I read here?) and the focus seems like it could be a little smoother - then again I'm comparing that to the smoothness of my CV lenses. Other than that everything is in fine working order. Not bad for a 25-30 year old camera!

I'm going to run some film through it while the Bessa is in the shop. Maybe I can send it to Gman for a once over when I get the Bessa back. I understand (from what I read here) that he's done Canonet CLA's for others on the forum and will be sending him a PM.

I'm happy to join the ranks of the other Canonet QL17 owners!

yes greyhoundman has forgoten more than I will ever WANT to know about the insides of a Canonet

while he has it you might have him upgrade it so it uses 625 batteries, I have sent 3 to him so far.

here is a picture from my newest GIII [which according to Gman was never used before I got it, no seals, no lube]

this is the first shot, bad back lighting, used the canonet flash

Nice little camera... and a great tool too! I really liked mine, and I learned a great deal from it. I haven't used it in a long time.

Welcome to the pack of Canonet users! :)

Soon you'll find the way to REAL illumination, but in the meanwhile, you're on the right track! ;)

Looks like you've got a great lens on that one Dan!

I am really happy, I had a great shoot this weekend, first out of this canonet, first shots out of my yashica and shots from my NIKKOR 8,5cm came out IN FOCUS so I am a happy camper

Kevin, the QL17 GIII is a classic and a favourite around these parts (though not the only favourite, of course). Congrats! You may end up using it more often than you think once you see the lens quality.
