unlooked for and unasked for. The only two things amiss are the meter, which is wonky (wrong voltage battery) and the frame counter has quit working, which doesn't seem to affect the camera's operation. Does Sherry Krauter repair this model? Also, can the 40mm lens which came with it, which I really, really like, be put on a different model M body and still work? The original instruction manual says that it won't, but I've read that it will. What's the real story on this lens, and say, an M5 or M3 body?

Thanks to all who reply.

With best regards,

Try a Wein air cell battery (online if not local), compare to a trusted meter, shoot a roll or two with bracketing before considering next steps. I don't know if Sherry repairs CLs, but best to make your best diagnosis before throwing money at a CL.

I had a wonky frame counter on my Leica CL; not on my Leitz/Minolta CL. But this strikes me as having even less cause for spending money. Count your shots. Shoot until it doesn't wind and you're done with that roll.

Whether the 40mm is Leica, Minolta or Voigtlander, it'll work on any M camera. Only the CL/E & Bessa R3's have 40mm frame lines, but you can guesstimate between 35 and 50 framelines. And Cameraquest has 40mm viewfinders. I'd spend my lunch money on a 40 OVF rather than on a frame counter fix, but that's just me.

I just finished a roll of Arista 100 in my CL this evening --the last shot @f1.4 1/30 in darkening fog--which may explain my immediate kibitzing. Enjoy your gift.
