Sorry guys
Just too excited...Cant contain it.
I bought a minty 50 'cron, tabbed 🙂
Suppose to be a rarer version too! Chrome ..yummy chrome!

First impressions out of box.
Feels solid! Built like a tank!Extremely smooth aperture and focusing movements!
Just so well made! The hood is mad big.
It is such a sexy thing indeed..😛
now i have a 35mm, 40mm and 50mm lens...😱
time to stop the GAS !
😛

ps. i immediately put on a bw filter....any recommendations for a generic CAP that can just cap straight onto this E39 50cron?

time to go and shoot!......

edit: replaced hood with CAP.// looking for a generic cap i mean that i can cap onto the front of this lens. hood is tooo big lol

Mark,

what color is your camera body?

Black R3A. but i really like the chrome 50
its one hell of a beauty . the 50 is heavy enough to tip the body forward... hmm

thanks for all your suggestions above on the hoods.. but the lens came with a vented hood with a big cap that goes onto the hood.

i was looking for suggestions on a small cap to fit the lens front 🙂
thanks all !

Any snap on cap will do, 39mm.

Or 42mm push on should fit fine also.

If you want to get formal, your hood should reverse and slip onto the lens and Leica sells cap which will cover the reversed cap. That may be the set up you got with the lens.

Congrats, like I mentioned before, get some slow film and shot that darling wide open.

Follow Peter's advice, and get the vented 39mm hood.

Congrats Mark

You will love the lens! Get a 55mm snap cap for the front of the hood. I use the Heavystar vented hood+55mm snap cap on my 50/1.4 Nikkor. Works like a charm!

Now load up some of that nice new Portra film and SHOW US SOME PICTURES!

AND, for the ultimate in protection, I use a generic, CHEAP 39mm metal screw in cap on my Summicron. ebay is full of them. I got mine from EastOK. It holds the hood in the reversed position. It won't fall off!

Why use a lens cap? It's just one more thing to deal with before getting a shot with your sexy lens 😀
that is true
all my dslr lenses have no caps on to ensure fast shooting
just was looking more for storage purposes
ha
but now i have a filter
its ok

actually, does BW make silver rim filters????

No silver rim filters from B&W, Mark. You'll have to shop for Leica's filters.

I've been looking for a silver ring 46mm yellow filter. Not even Leica makes them! 🙁 At least I did get a used Leica UV for my 'lux.

BTW, congratulations on your purchase. Silver chrome lenses really rock! 🙂

Here's what you can do: buy a beaten up Leitz filter and a new Hoya HMC or B+W filter (Nikon makes great 39mm filters, too) and put the glass of the new filter in the rim of the old one. Works quite well. I use a Nikon filter in a Leitz frame on my Elmarit.

Roland.
interesting
how does one take the glass out of one filter and thread in into the silver rim?
