I handled a perfect condition Nikon S2 today.... in Ace Camera in Bath.
Oh dear, it was perfect. Handled ust like the trusty Contax II (that I miss having sold it), but with a super-bright VF/RF without clutter. Stiff strong focus wheel, nice quick wind-on. Smooth operation.
Perfect.
Kinda I want one.
I'm glad I spent all the money on the Razzle or I'd have to find a way to cough up double to afford the Nikon + lens. It really was beautiful.

Noel,
No way
Even if I did, I wouldn't raise enough money for the Nikon. Besides, I quite like the M2!!
I bet you by this time next year I'll have bought a Nikon and sold it again.

Well now I know what all the fuss is about. They are really nice cameras. At the same time I don't feel that I'd choose it over an M2.. but maybe I would? I miss the Contax/Nikon grip.
That is the one thing that shocked me after I left the shop; I didn't realise until after how my hand fitted into that grip instinctually (from using the Contax for months). No faffing around trying to find my bearings, I just picked it up and my middle finger was on the wheel.
It was nice to have a 1:1 finder too, I had both eyes open making for a more comfortable experience.
Argh, ok ok I've talked myself into wanting one.

Nope, no Leica bodies to my fancy (they did have a Reid-I though
)
I don't wanna try a Canon-P or I might like it too!

How much is it, the possibly aprophyl story is the author signing his books asks the person in the queue what her name is and writes her name in his book.

Too steep, you gotta resist, you can get them cheaper.
They have a P and VT on their site, must take a trip, now you got me at it...

I can't quite remember. I walk around in circles for about 25 minutes to find it every time.
It's down an alley, close to one of the shopping arcades I believe.

Hi Ash,
Could you clarify your intention when writing "stiff strong focus wheel". Since there is another ongoing thread about a stiff problematic focusing wheel on a Nikon RF, your description may be confusing to me.
Thanks,
Ruben

You're talking GBP right?? That's a LOTTA cash for an S2.

800 UKP is way too much. Ash, you can get mine for 750 UKP, including the nice stiff focus wheel

No, I said a few, not a couple - a few is 3 or more, a couple is 2. So a few under a grand is £700
... At least, I think it was £699... Maybe it was £799. The camera was minty, serious shelf-queen condition without a scratch or nick to be seen. Whoever had it before took good care of it, I put it through the shutter speeds among other things, and everything looked and sounded fine. Ace Cameras can appear pricey, but those who have been there can see why - they only sell good condition gear.
Doesn't really matter. I loved playing with it but I can't afford it.
The focusing wasn't very stiff, it was smooth, but required effort. Unlike the C-II or Kiev that move back and forth like butter.
