I was bringing for service lens with stiff (to me) focus to local camera store today.
They have M4-2 with M4-P framelies! Sold in Midland for 135CAD in 1983 according to original receipt. It was sold now for 1500CAD.

I guess, here is no way to get 28mm framelines in M4-2 these days.

I bought two M4-2 Leica bodies new, one in 1978 and the other in 1980 and each was over 600 CAD back then.

Interesting! I was told it was something like internal sale. I'll try to get photo of this receipt.

It is either that or the buyer had some pricey photo gear to trade.

A budget new SLR, the Praktica LTL with the 50mm f 2.8 Tessar lens cost 135 CDN in 1973 from Sears Canada, I should know, as that is what I paid to own my first decent photo taking camera as a teenager.

Yeah, in 1974 I paid ~$130CDN for an OM-1 w/ 50/1.8. But I bought grey market from Hong Kong, so the price in Canada would have been higher.

Wow, people can remember what they paid for things 40 years ago! I'm not sure whether that is a blessing or a curse, but it is impressive.
Best peace-of-mind advice anyone ever gave me about buying (possibly expensive) things, was that you should always keep your receipts, but never look at them.

Either that or I made up a number of what I think I paid. 😀

TBH, it was a seminal moment for me: I graduated to a "real" camera, I had spent literally months reading photo magazines and trying to make a decision on which system to buy into, etc. I still have fond memories of finally receiving the package.

Well, when you are a young person working part-time at less than minimum wage and trying to sock away a few dollars each week to save up to buy what you desire and can afford at that time, the price of the item becomes engrained in your organic memory bank. 🙂

Much higher Earl.

A new black paint OM 1 with the fast 55mm f1.2 lens was 460 CAD in July of 1976 and had to be special ordered.

A year later a new chrome OM 1 body could be bought at Henry's in Toronto for 188 CAD not including tax.
