It was a surreal experience.
Tom sent me a detailed letter documenting everything about his prototype 50/1.1 Nikkor Lens hoods - May 3, 2008.
Knowing what the letter was, I put it away with that prototype lens hood.
Opening and reading it was special. Tom constructed his letters like his RapidWinders - with detailed precision.

And if you ever messaged him about photography in some way he would respond and help you out. I think I cherish my softie highest among my accessories.

I sent him a battery pack I rebuilt so he could get his motorized Nikon F back in service, and he sent me some film canisters for my S2, along with one of his stamped photos. He didn't have to send them, as I didn't ask for anything in return, but that's just the way Tom was. I'll cherish the photo, and plan to use the canisters next Nikon RF month. His greatness came from all the little things he would do.
