Next week's issue of Amateur Photographer magazine has a group test of rangefinder cameras. I know, I know... Who'da thunk it?

The cameras tested are the M7, the Ikon and the R3a. Even if the conclusion will be something along the lines of "you get what you pay for...", I for one would like to give AP a great big metaphorical hug.

sigh....I wish someone would scan these and stick them up for those of us not able to get our hands on these things.....oh well, probably break some copyright laws or something

Have just read the article; it rather sits on the fence! It can be summed up as "If you can afford an M7, get it; if you can't afford the Leica but you can afford an Ikon, get that; if not then get a Bessa". I don't think the reviewer has too much experience with rangefinders, given how much he whinges about finding framing difficult. And I feel they missed a huge chance to explain to the DSLR-owning masses quite what rangefinders are all about. A slightly missed opportunity, IMHO, but a god read anyway!

However - an intruiging letter this week. A chap has found an M3 with 50mm 'Cron for £5 at a boot sale, and has written in to ask about it. Chris Gatcum, who I usualy trust, has suggested that it's probably a forgery based on a Zorki or FED. I've never heard of an FSU rangefinder being mocked up to mimic an M-mount Leica, only the Leica II; indeed I've never heard of an M-mount FSU rangefinder at all. Is AP speaking nonsense, or have I missed a whole line of FSU cameras?

Cheers
